We need some input on the font size for the forum.
I think it is perfect the way it is now.
I actually have a comment on what you did to the old forum. Last time I checked, you bolded all the old messages, which makes it harder to read. I think it would be better if you just made it regular again
We spotted that, Newt, and will fix it. Thanks.
a little bit bigger and some small serifs, please. . .
Thanks for considering our input
I am having a very hard time with the new font size. It is too small for me to see. It’s really hard to read in longer posts. Also, if you stick to a smaller size, could you increase the space between lines. That would make it more readable.
They should make it smaller, so more posts fit on a page. You can always adjust your browser settings if it appears to small.
I don’t mind the size as such, but on the parent’s forum some of us are needing those reading glasses!! With the smaller font we are able to see more post on one page, which I like alot!
Like bookiemom said, more space between the lines might help, expecially on the longer posts.
I’m thinking there needs to be two sizes of font - one for students and one for parents!
Adjusting the font size on my browser works for other sites, but not for this one.
After someone here told me how to adjust my font size (control + or -) I’m a very happy camper. I usually use a laptop on my lap, so size isn’t really a problem. My biggest complaint is with posters who write very long posts without enough paragraph breaks. Four or five lines is about my limit.
I will refer you to a Web site

with lots of research-based, FREE information on how to improve the usability (and thus the popularity) of Web sites. You can’t predict which users who visit your site have what brand of browser running on what brand of computer running with how many windows open sized to what size. You just don’t know. Therefore you should NEVER hard-code font sizes, but rather let font sizes be reset by the user (as it appears you do now). You have many young users, presumably with perfect uncorrect vision, and you definitely have many adult users old enough to have presbyopia and thus to need reading glasses. Make sure that whatever you do you make the fonts resizable by user command(s) via the user’s Web browser. Bear in mind too that this may be a requirement under United States federal law (the Americans with Disabilities Act).
I personally think the current default font sizes are too small (for me, an adult with presbyopia), so I’ll start resizing my browser’s view when I land on this site. I like being able to SEE what’s on a Web site.
I had the misimpression when I just posted my last reply that your current configuration allows resizing the view of your forums. It doesn’t, on my system (Mozilla on Windows XP) but you do let users see larger fonts as they type replies, as I am doing just now. You MUST change the coding of the forums so that all views of the forum have resizable fonts–it’s clear now that many users think the default font is too small. Check legal requirements about accessibility and change this a.s.a.p., following the advice found at
<a href=“http://www.useit.com%5B/url%5D”>http://www.useit.com</a>
and doing some usability testing (as described on that site). You want your site to be the best on its topic, right? Usability is key to achieving that goal.
Moreover, I have a VERY ANNOYING problem of having to log in afresh every time I post a reply. Isn’t there some cookie-based way to allow a whole session to recognize me as logged in? What gives there? Is the site setting more cookies than necessary, or setting them in a nonstandard way, such that I have to log in individually for every reply I post? That would be another thing to check with a Mozilla running on Windows XP configuration.
Thanks for asking about how to improve the site.
We’ve been experimenting with the software (which didn’t allow resizing as set originally) and think we have a workaround that will let users choose a size. We have a little more experimentation remaining.
Login issue-
Once you are logged in on a given PC, you should never be automatically logged out. I’d suggest being sure that you aren’t blocking cookies for starters; if that seems OK, next delete any cookies from collegeconfidential.com and talk.collegeconfidential.com, and then log in. That cured a different issue (not being able to log OUT) for several members.
It’s too small for me…have to get out my reading glasses every time!
I like how it is now.
I’m using Mozilla Firefox and I can resize at will. In fact these words are giant sized at the moment.
