CC has messed me up!

I don't know what exactly is a good score on the SAT or the ACT. People outside this site say that anything over a 1800 is an AMAZING score. While here a 2200 is enough for a retake.

So what is the truth?

Depends on what you're aiming for.

A lot of CC-ers are overachievers and are aiming for the Ivies, in which a 2200 is just borderline okay (assuming mediocre, but good, everything else).

Basically what naidu wants to know is whether she should retake after getting a 2310. I guess she was just a bit nervous to ask this straight up since others in the past who have done so have been constantly bashed by others. Just thought I should put in my two cents ;)

But please, I am not saying that you should bash naidu :) . Because after all, a 2310 certainly does deserve a retake; Harvard would be utterly disgusted if such action will not be taken!

just shut up, nyjunior. Your two cents are not even worth a penny.

For reference, a girl in my school who has taken all advanced math/science AP courses and scored 5's on most (if not all) of the AP tests got a 1950 on the SAT. The highest PSAT scorer in my grade was a 198.

Please don't spam our threads naidu!

so, Ashraf, anything over a 1800 is good? Guess my friends were right...

What's that supposed to mean? Of course anything over an 1800 is good, it is like above 80th percentile, but to have a good shot at Harvard or stuff, you SHOULD have 2200 or higher, though there are obviously some exceptions.

But if you want to major in engineering or some math-related field in an Ivy school, and got like a 710 on the math section of the SAT, then I think it is advisable that you retake.

Oh by the way Ashraf, naidu thought that I was you a while back, it's true. I know it is a HUGE compliment, but who is she to be throwin around accusations like that?

o_O If you two are going to fight, please, continue over PM. You both look ridiculous.

As Taggart said, the majority of people here are overachievers. Please also keep in mind that some adults think the SAT is still out of 1600. xD So if you tell them 1600, they'll think you received a perfect score, when in reality, that's a bit too low for colleges.

I don't think it matters what "adults" think, unless they are a part of the admin. in some really top colleges. And then it would be quite unlikely that they would fall for a 1600 being perfect, don't you think? And I gave some fundamental advice, so I wasn't spamming.

I started this thread to ask a serious question  I didn't do it to spam my own thread.

I know that, NY. I'm just saying that if you ask your parents if a 1600 is good, they'll assume it's a perfect score, unless they've been informed otherwise by you or a teacher/counselor. So you'd be best off asking a counselor... even then, they'll all tell you different things. There's no harm in re-taking the SAT, colleges take your highest score, not your most recent score.

And sometimes they even take your superscore, so if you did unevenly poor in one section (Naidu, that's you), I suggest you retake it.

I thought that the UC's don't take the superscore...

I don't know, but from what I have read, a lot of colleges indeed do, so look into this.

take a look at your percentile... that tells a lot about how good a score is in an objective way.

What is a good percentile? Anything over a 90% or 95%

Like someone else said "You two! Get a room!"

That helps me a lot!

not.

We do have a room (each)!!!!! Do you think we're talking from a black hole in spacetime?!
