CC help? Is it worth it?

Hey! I am a US citizen though roots are in India.
I am in my high school senior year and financially we're not that capable(40k)
Now I'm an ok student with a SAT score of 1900 and SAT math-(670) chem-(680) and phy (730)......... I'll also be taking calculus, phy and chem for my AP exams.
So that was a lil about me,due to financial issues,I considered going to a community college first(though I'm not that keen)
What are the advantages?
Plus is it better to wait an year and then apply to a 4 year college? ya I know I'll be needing the finances. How much can one take up in loans?
Plus I heard that people transfer to a same state university where there CC was.I don't want to limit my options :(
Help would be much appreciated :) :) :D
Regards
PS: I have a GPA of 3.4,I consider going to a CC to improve my GPA too!
But I don't wanna influence your reply,so Please go on :) :)

Hi! Maybe I could share my experiences as a freshman at a CC straight out of high school. In HS I had very similar grades as you 3.5 GPA and a 26 on my ACT. I did not have to take the SAT so I don’t know how that translates to an SAT score but anyways… Money really wasn’t the reason for my decision to attend CC but I’ll try my best to give some tips:D

I’ll start with some advantages for me:
Obviously the money.
Class sizes are very small and workload is fairly easy.
I personally have time to make an informed decision on where I want to transfer and not fall behind academically or make a rash decision.
I am able to work.

You probably don’t want to here the disadvantages but I feel like I have to be truthful:
I really don’t have a social life (I know it’s pathetic) I haven’t met many people. A lot of adult, middle-aged students and a lot of slackers.
Hard to see my HS friends leave for their schools and meet new people while I’m still at home.
Some teachers have not been very good.
A lot of my classes aren’t very challenging, similar to HS level courses.
I haven’t really tried to get involved which is my fault.
I missed out on the “college experience”. Like football games, school pride, parties, greek life ( I honestly don’t even know what my school’s mascot is)

THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION AND MY EXPERIENCES SO OTHERS MAY FEEL TOTALLY DIFFERENT. I am a member of the national honors society Phi Theta Kappa at my CC and a lot of universities that I have looked at give decent scholarships for that so maybe that is an option if they have it at your CC. Apply for FAFSA and see if you can get any financial aid. Loans are an option too if you need it. Apply for scholarships. I plan on transferring to a private college in the fall of 2013. In reality it is only 1 year. You have many options so see what will work best for you. If you are really determined to go to a 4 year school I’m sure you can make it work! If you decide to go to CC get involved!! If you aren’t happy with one or the other you can always transfer, nothing is permanent!
