CC Influence on School

Is it me, or does being a member of CC idea to study more in school and do more EC's? I can easily say ever since joining CC my grades have gone up a good amount and my ECs have soared... maybe a bit too much. Do you guys think CC has the same affect on you?

I think it does; my grades went up before CC, but it has made me more cognizant of admissions machinations and how to bypass them.

i found out about this after the important part of hs and admissions so i dont know.

I think you realize that you have to step up your game to compete with kids in the real world. I was the best in my school and thought I was doing pretty good and then I came here and was like "Wow, I'm dumb!" So then I took some more classes and picked up on the ECs.

yeah, i discovered CC after i applied to college. so yeah, my grades actually dropped (mostly due to senioritis, not CC).

Same here. I thought I was doing pretty darn well until I got on this site and then it was like "Dang, I'm not gonna take AP Stats anymore. Better take Calculus!"

Yeah, I agree with anovice. Once you get here, you see what the real world is like and how competative it is.

yeah, and i waste too much time on here

"Once you get here, you see what the real world is like and how competative it is."

CC isn't a very good refletion of the real world...it's a skewed world where all the extremely obsessive, anal retentive, smart kids go try and analyze their chances. If you really look the college admissions world most of the applicants are not like CC kids. CC kids are not the norm. For example out of all of Harvard's apps (something like 20,000), more than half are really a joke compared to CC kids. About 50-60% of people that apply to H have no business applying they just feel that they should give it a shot even though they have mediocre stats ( I know like 10 kids at my h.s. who applied just because it was H although they were barely in the top 25% of the class and had 1100-1200 SATs). Then there are another 20-30% of students who do well, participate in some ECs, etc. but don't really have anything than sets them apart (like most of the kids in the top 15% of most of your h.s. they are smart but nothing really sets them apart). Then you have a small percentage of students 10-15% who are exceptional like CC kids (these are the ones that get in). I'd venture to guess that if you took out all of the joke kids H's admit rate is closer to 25%.

So CC doesn't give you a real world view of your competition it only gives you the skewed view from the top applicants.

CC has absolutely no effect on my schoolwork at all. I found this site at the end of my senior year #1...and the only reason I really get on here is to bs and spend some down time I have at work.....bern has it right, CC is not a good reflection of the real world

CC is absolutely nothing like the real world. I don't know about you, but I went to a decently regarded private school. Of which, ONE person from my graduating class goes to an Ivy. Here, if you don't go(or planning on going) to an Ivy or a highly prestigious school, you really don't fit in from an "academic" point of view. Everyone here compares GPAs and SAT scores, while in the real world, people compare how many keg stands they can do before passing out or how big their bench press is.

I've never heard of people comparing their bench press unless they are at the gym.

I'm glad SOMEONE took me literally.

I can barely do one kegstand,....but my bench, now theres a real world topic. haha, or how many beers you can take through beer bong

Yummmmm rubber filtered alcohol...

hell yes....around here we simply call it "phil"

I realize CC isn't a reflection of the real world, but it really gave me some perspective. Sure, it basically killed all of my self-confidence in the process, but it's also made me more prepared for what to expect when college admissions roll around.

Oh, and I'm a he11 lot more competitive than I used to be.

If your self-confidence revolved around your academics, it wasn't much in the first place. I'd list my academics about 24th on my list of things important in regards to my self confidence, right behind doing a backflip, and I cant even do a backflip.

I've always sucked at back tumbling.
