CC Kids are a little bit arrogant no?

i dont know about you but sometimes i feel that cc kids are full of themselves and think they are super smart... maybe they are but the way a lot of them represents themselves just makes me want to punch tem

here is a common example i see

Example:
Should I retake SAT? i got 800 math, 750 writing, and 730 writing, WITHOUT ANY STUDYING FIRST TIME. i think i can get 2400 if i definitely try.

anyone feel me?

I wouldn't say arrogant... Arrogant is when you're rudely boasting and annoying other people of your superiority.

I'd have to say it's more of an obsession/ADD with scores, as well as a lack of a dose of reality.

You should know how competitive college admissions are, and the difference between a 730 and an 800 can mean a whole lot.

Honestly, it sounds like you're just jealous.

^The difference between a 730 and a 800 is a lot, but the difference about between a 2330 and a 2400 is not that big. It's not arrogance though, it's mostly insecurity.

Depends on which board you're at...people who post at the Ivy League board and apply to Harvard and stuff probably will be more like that. Those of us who apply to good state colleges think the former group is just being obsessive ;)

hpa10 beat me to it. I sense a lot of insecurity among CC kids. Anonymous cyberspace just lets them say things here that they would never say in person. That comes across as arrogant, but I don't think they truly are that way IRL.

yeah but a lot of them say unnecessary stuff like NO STUDYING FIRST TIME, WAS SICK WHEN I TOOK, SOMEONE WAS BOTHERING ME, etc. if they have a flaw they make up some excuse to try to cover it....

I think that some of the younger posters believe that numbers, such as GPA & standardized test scores & class rank, are 95% of what it takes to get into elite colleges & universities. And sometimes they are right, while other times their lack of life experiences blinds them from seeing the great attributes offered by other applicants with less than stellar numbers. Some top students are obsessed with testing because that is what they are good at doing & it is within their control to a great extent. Plus, the education industry has created all of the standardized tests & thrust them on schools & students. As an earlier poster wrote, part of the intense focus on test scores is a bit of insecurity manifesting itself. Also getting into an elite college/university is an accepted form of validation of one's self worth. That can place a lot of pressure on students that results in an almost compulsive fixation on standardized test scores.

Add the word "Most" in front of CC kids and put the word "insecure" instead of arrogant and I'd agree with you. There are really lax, completely chill ones like myself on this site.

Yeah, that's definitely annoying. "I got a 4 on AP physics C because my teacher was an idiot!" A lot of aspects of CC are very, very far from reality. I'd be very interested in meeting the part of the population that attends Ivies but that hasn't ever been on CC. To put things into perspective.

Excuses are often just a lack of maturity. Blaming others shows a lack of responsibility.

I think a lot of it is definitely insecurity...

I don't see how saying "I didn't study" is arrogant. It's probably true in most cases. The person is probably just gauging how much studying actually improves the test score. In fact, I would advise people to take the ACT the first time without studying.

It's definitely arrogant when it accompanies "Ugh... I totally bombed the SAT... I only got a 2350..."

I don't think so....

Then again I do....!

i agree with others - its more insecurity than anything else, and "a little bit" doesnt really describe it lol

I never really thought of them as arrogant before. But after reading posts like josh333's, I'm beginning to think so. You can call it "insecurity" if you want to. A rose by any other name is just as sweet, right?

I will be the first to admit I am too arrogant for my own good. And I can't compare against most of the people here.

I agree that a decent number of CCers are insecure. These countless School A vs. School B threads, where someone will bring up average SAT scores, class sizes and so on and so forth to try to prove that this school is "better" than that school. There are people spending countless hours researching obscure facts to try to validate their school is "superior" to the lowly (insert public school). I just think that a decent number of CCers are just somewhat out of touch with the general public. They write things that just make me think "Man, if this kids sounds so weird on the internet, imagine what he's like in person."

^I agree with you 100%. To most of us on here, going to a school that's not top 20 on USNWR is a colossal failure. In the real world, even a school that's 99 on that list is an amazing institution.

Of course CC kids are arrogant. Read the forum and you'll see most have plenty to be arrogant about. The kids who make you mad because they are getting 4.0s and 2370s are the ones who will most likely get in to not necessarily hyps, but t20, and probably just do pretty well in general. There's plenty to be arrogant about, as long as said kid possesses enough intelligence to cloak the arrogance completely when it behooves the kid to do so. This is a zone consisting of many starting quarterbacks in the academic world, with parents who did quite well, etc. Of course you will see a lot of arrogance here, you should have figured that out your first day on the forum.

Also, a pysch concept is that people are arrogant and in general believe themselves to be the center. Most normal people just know that they are supposed to hide this and act a certain way, and they may do this unconciously. Now, when you are online, and chances are no one is going to take the time to trace your IP and ascertain your indentity, your real instincts are free to come out. So you have arrogant people who SEEM normal and down to earth in real life, but online, are free to be constantly let everyone know how great they are.
