So, currently i am attending a CSU and am intent on double majoring in communications and psychology. I am also trying to transfer to a UC by next year. There are so many reasons as to why i want to transfer (better school, more opportunities, away from home, independence, etc.). I just can't seem to decide which path to choose on how to get there though. I was really bent on leaving my current school and attend a CC for the next year. Only my parents and sister don't agree that that may be the best decision. They say that if i choose that, then i will be putting all my eggs in one basket by attending the CC and assuming that i don't get into a UC (since they don't accept everyone that applies). They proposed that i should stay at the CSU and attend both CC and the CSU simultaneously; so if i do get rejected, i will still be able to fall back on the 4 year school. I understand the risks either one has and therefore am at a loss on what to do. CC students are given more priority and CSU students come later, but what about a student who is attending both? Would i still be reviewed as a CSU transfer applicant? Will my chances of being accepted be high? I don't feel as if i may be rejected but it's still a possibility that i cannot just cross off. I don't want to stay at a CC if i am but i really dislike the school i am attending. I just don't know what to do to make sure i get into a UC. I want to be able to do everything i possibly can to be able to know that i indeed will be accepted and transfer by next fall. I will be applying to UCSB, UCD and UCSD this fall. My first choice is UCD and 2nd choice UCSB. Help!

So I’ve been in the same predicament as you and here’s what I figured out and what I’m going to do.

To be counted as a CC student you have to have completed 30/60 units at the CC. You have to be enrolled at the CC when applying.

If you are attending both schools at once, you’ll be counted as a CSU student ( since you are still enrolled at the CSU). However I was talking to a student who did the same thing and what they did was take a Leave of Absence at the CSU. It let them take off a year at the CSU, and come back after. During that year they went to a CC.

Also if you’re planning to go to UCSB, I’m pretty sure you can TAG with them. Only some UCs let you tag with previous 4 year coursework.

CSU transfer don’t really have great chances to xfer ):.
