So, I was rushing to finish my Yale application before my 4 day trip to DC for Powershift. I read on CC that there was an extension and that the deadline was now March 10th. I didn't believe it at first, but someone said they called and they said the admissions office confirmed it. I went to on my trip, came back, and finished my application. I was planning on sending it after my classes today, but I just found out that there was NOT an extension. I'm hurt and annoyed. I know it's my fault, but the thread really had me convinced. I'm wondering if the poster did it on purpose. Do you think I can call Yale and explain the situation?

lol, I meant to put an question mark after the title

It was reading comprehension, not sabotage.

um, don’t think it was an intentional thing… i thing i saw it too. lol but call up yale and say you tried sending it and there were problems with the server, showing some sort of error. say everythings been done. idk, i’m sure they wouldn’t mind.

First off, Yale does not accept electronic applications. Everything is sent via hardcopy…so they will see that it was postmarked on 3/x/09.

Secondly, I saw the same post. If you looked at the date in which it was created, it said 2008. Further down the thread you can see that a moderator commented on how misleading the thread was so she proceeded to lock it. Next time, be a more avid reader and you won’t be fooled by such “misleading” information.

Third and most importantly, who takes blind advice from random posters on a forum. If you were a serious candidate, you would do extensive research on the subject matter. Since you obviously didn’t, you probably weren’t a worthwhile candidate anyway. Good luck to you chap

wow, well played…

sorry to hear that though

OP,
If you make a practice of just reading selected parts of threads (and not carefully at that) and then use it to make a major decision without checking the PRIMARY source, YOU are sabotaging YOURSELF.

I don’t like to see anyone make a mistake like this, but for the life of me, I don’t know what to do if people: 1) insist on dragging up old threads; 2) read what they want to read and 3) don’t confirm information when they are making a serious decision.

I just thought it was strange that the thread was brought back after a…year? And I didn’t get a chance to read it when the moderator posted because I was in DC for 4 days without internet.

And, for all of you, I said it was my fault. If it makes you feel good to attack me, so be it.

I’m still calling Yale to explain the problem. I’m just as good of a candidate as anyone else. I don’t need you guys telling me otherwise.

“I’m just as good of a candidate as anyone else. I don’t need you guys telling me otherwise.”

No offense, but top schools have their pick of the litter. It seems unfair to assume that the best candidates can’t also fulfill the obligation of turning in all application materials on time.

Also no offense, but I think “I accidentally misunderstood an internet forum post regarding Yale’s application date” may be a tough sell. I’m inclined to think that, barring an unbelievable hook, you’d be better off saving the app fee even if they allow you to submit it late.

Just to make sure that everyone has this in context. The OP says:

When she drug up the old thread and posted on it, Balleta said:

So it’s obvious from when the thread first “reappeared” that it was a year old. Balleta asked a question and NO ONE implied or in any way stated that Y extended the deadline again this year.

haha…I just reread the entire thread and noticed how upsetting it must be for the poster. Poor fellow. But, I have to agree with the other posters that it probably is not worth while spending the money to send the app out. What would you think if you were an admissions officer and saw 500 extremely qualified (~4.0 etc…) applicants and one applicant who sent their app in late. With only 25 spots open, why in the world would they pick you? I wouldn’t.

I have a fee waiver, and I want to apply. If they don’t allow me to send it in, so be it. The likelihood of me getting in is slim…it’s just… I want to apply. For personal reasons

Wow, the responses in this post were brutal. I’m starting to think CC is a terribly mean place. Did you end up sending you application?

^^^ PM me with your response. I’m having trouble with CC notifying me when people reply to my posts.

Nobody was being rude here, just honest. Stop trying to take the moral highway like you think you’re better than everyone else here elvis32z. It’s flipping irritating. People were just expressing their thoughts as well as giving sound advice that was germane to this thread. You, on the other hand, contribute nothing with your empty posts across several threads.

Seriously, it’s incredibly annoying.
