Any chance the powers to be could highlight a student of the week on this site that is NOT attending a top 20 or elite school?
It would be good to hear from students attending their in state public university, or a smaller and not well known LAC.
You know…not everyone will be applying to only these elite schools. How about highlighting someone who didn’t…and is happy with their choices, and share that too.
Especially if the student is low income or an URM. That would be cool. It looks like most of the students of the week are upper class/middle class and ORMs.
The existing forum demographic is heavily skewed toward the “upper middle class that does not get financial aid” (approximately the top 4% excluding the top 1% in family income and wealth).
But perhaps it may help expand the forums’ appeal to include more from middle and lower SES families (who can share their experience looking for financial aid and scholarships), as well as those not going to prestige colleges as mentioned in post #0. Perhaps non traditional and transfer students can also be included.
Most of the students featured as the “Student of the Week” have reached out and expressed interested in helping others by sharing their story, offering input, and providing guidance. We do not have a policy to select only elite students, so if you know of anyone who is interested in answering questions and telling their story in an inspirational way, please ask them to contact me.
