CC student takingn Barnard Classes

Hey Guys,
I was just wondering, I am a first-year prospective double majorer in Poli Sci/History. But I looked on the CU directory of classes (which I assume is the most up to date class directory since the CU bulletin is so outdated and confusing) and figured out that if my core classes are in line I think that most of the interesting classes and the ones that fit my schedule (past 1:00) are at Barnard. Nevertheless, someone told me that classes taken at Barnard are not taken towards your major, but serve as just electives. Is that true? Because I want to get some major classes done now. (And for those who may say don't worry about a major or go explore, I'm pretty set on this anything other than Politics and History I fall asleep in.) So again do Barnard classes count towards the major?

I don't know about Poli Sci, but History classes are absolutely interchangeable with Barnard, and can count toward major requirements.

same for poli sci except for one class which is introduction to political theory i believe. if you want to concentrate in political theory, you have to take columbia's course because Barnard's is different.

Also one more thing, with the core curiculum taking up most of the classes, is it even possible to go through the core, double major, and still have some electives left over for some english classes? (I heard law schools like English Classes)

First of all, if your concern is applying to law school, you oughtn't worry about what classes you take; law schools will only look at the content of your transcript (as opposed to your GPA) if you're a borderline case.

Secondly, yes, it is possible to both double major, take the Core, and have time left over for electives. Of course, it depends what you're double majoring in. Architecture, for example, is too demanding as a single major, but many pull off majoring in history and english whilst taking, say, random philosophy classes.

As c2007 said, it depends on how intense your majors are. Some majors require more classes than others. Where have you heard that law schools like English classes? That's simply not true. It's all about GPA.

Well I mean that b/c I heard that Law Schools like schedules that show some writing. Also I stink at writing which makes me look forward to Uni Writing and other writing classes to up my skills.

Do realize that humanities classes at Columbia are just writing, and your grade is based pretty much exclusively on your writing ability. So, you'll be doing more than enough writing in poli sci and history classes. You'll get better at writing as you go along, especially if you work at it. Just don't think that "english" or "writing" classes are the only classes that involve substantial writing.

...not to mention writing-instruction and writing-intensive classes are built into the Core.
