CC student transferring to Rutgers with a poor HS GPA

I applied to Rutgers New Brunswick today, which happens to also be the deadline for transfer students (it was kind of a last minute decision)! I'm a bit worried and totally unsure about whether I'll get in or not.

I'm worried/unsure because I did very poorly in high school. I believe that I earned something like a 2.7 GPA. Also, I didn't participate in any after school activities or clubs, nor did I take the SATs. I put little to no effort into high school, as you can probably tell.

However, I transferred to a NJ community college after hs and have been doing well. I have so far completed 49 credits and have a 3.97 GPA. I'm also taking Honors classes and have joined a club. This has to count for something, right? What do you think my chances are?

I should mention that on the application for transfer students, an essay was recommended but not required. I did write an essay but it was very short (you're given 3800 characters and I think I used about 1000). I wish I'd have thought to apply sooner so I could've worked on my essay a bit more. I don't even think it reflects the prompt too well. How much do you think this will hurt my chances?

Thanks for reading!

Honestly the only thing that could put you out of Rutgers is your essay, so low match.

Yeah, my essay really should’ve been longer. It’s barely three paragraphs. Hopefully they’ll at least see that it’s grammatically correct. Thanks for answering!
