I mean I see where you're all going with this, and I agree that judging everything on the chance thread is just stupid, idk I just want out of Utah so bad, and getting in to a college I want (BU, Northeastern, etc.) allready seems impossible, and I guess just seeing this stuff makes it worse lol.

I agree with this thread. So much.

This is actually my first day back in this thread for a few good weeks. I lost my patience being told I'll never get anywhere I want to go, with "just" 4 AP classes and 3's on my AP Tests.

I may not get into Harvard, but I'll damn sure do more than what these people say.

^ right on! don't let them make you feel stupid!

Yeah, it's a huge relief knowing that there's more than just me out there.

I am NOT a moron.

*Valedictorian doesn't always cut it anymore though, like I said.

There was a girl at my school a couple years back who had like a 4.5 GPA and applied to UCLA and got rejected.*

Yes, we realize that. We also realize that it's not just about grades. It still is surprising that the valedictorian from Stuyvesant got rejected just because that school is so well known for being a top NYC private.

That made me smile. :)

I was talking to some kid from here on AIM the other day and he was telling me how lazy I am because I'm only taking 5 classes this year (Senior year..now c'mon honestly, who doesn't lighten their load a bit Senior year? Especially when you've been taking rigorous 8-class years for the other 3 years?). THEN he tried to tell me how horrible of a student I am because I got a C in APUSH.

And then he tried to be all surprised when I got angry at him. XD

that the val of Stuyvesant got rejected from every single top school is really surprising, considering that school probably regularly sends 20-30 kids to ivies. (correct?)

Yeah... when I first joined CC, my self-esteem dipped.
Then, I stopped caring. I do what I enjoy. Yes, I want to go into Biochem. No, my EC's are not all centered around science. Sure, I could have joined Science Team to make my passion "stand out more." But, our science team is a complete joke- the advisors don't care about the team, and the members spend the meeting doodling and singing. I chose to join active clubs that I would actually DO things in.
I refuse to play the college "game." Er... for the most part =)

While I hate the chances thread and people who complain about 30s and 2100s on their ACT/SATs, you have to admit that although it can be a depressing read, it's a real wakeup call. I find no point in asking complete strangers what your chances are at schools. I used to do it all the time but I've just stopped doing it because anyone can be on this site, replying to anything.
I like this topic, and CC should be used to ask questions of how the majors are at certain colleges, the safety (dangerous or not) of the campus, etc. NOT CHANCES!!!

well, let me just say that i do think the chances profiles are good to a certain extent. even though i often feel hopeless after reading them, they did make me realize that i have to get off my bum and work real hard. i can't stand those chances profiles when people say "here are my stats, tell me if i'm gonna get in," but i think the ones saying "here are my stats, let me know if there are any areas you think i should improve on" are good. nobody here can know for sure if someone's gonna get in, but there are many people here that can offer great advice that helps a lot. yes, there is lots of intimidation, but for many people, including me, that wake-up call is needed.

I really like reading this thread because I now know I am not alone. Everytime I'm on here I feel so low and intimidated, yet I still use it lol. But I love this comment that HisGraceFillsMe made about the people feeling intimidated and just saying that "they had no chance because of their stats or w-e" to encourage them to not apply there.

After reading CC I'm happy if I wonder if I can even go to community college o_O

O.o

Someone agreed with me.

so is the apocalypse Tuesday or Wednesday?

Stuy is a public lol.
