Hi again! I know I posted here not too long ago, but I’ve been weighing my other options for an MFA. I think it might be beneficial to go to community college for theatre, then transfer to an MFA program after. I found a really good CC theatre program a couple of hours away from me AND I’m willing to make the move there to attend. I’m thinking of this option just because it would be cheaper in the long run, plus I would be able to get more experience on stage. I have experience on stage, but I haven’t graced the stage in a couple of years. Maybe since 2012? So I feel like I need some brushing up before auditions. Also, they have transfer agreements with different theatre programs around New York (where I’m from). What are everyone’s thoughts on this? Do you think it would be hard to transfer into an MFA program from CC?
Do you mean transfer to a BFA program from a CC? An MFA is a graduate degree, and requires a Bachelor’s degree (BA, BFA, BM,etc…) in order to apply.
In terms of transferring from a CC to a BFA program, it could be a good plan, but depending on the BFA program you still could be required to complete four years in the BFA program, even with an Associate’s degree from CC.
Check to confirm that the transfer agreements also hold for the Theatre major at the NY four year schools to which you might like to apply.
Generally speaking it sounds like a good plan, you will just want to check the specifics to know the possible outcomes.
Oh yes, sorry, it’s way early. HAHAHA!
Now I can’t edit it either, hmph. Haha. Anyway thank you for that info! They do have transfer agreements for theatre majors, luckily for me.
I am not a morning person…
