I am starting my first year of community college in the fall. I want to transfer after my first year. My first semester I will be taking calculus 2, chemistry 1, economics, composition 1 and intro to engineering. My second semester I plan on taking calculus 3, chemistry 2, physics 1 with calculus, and programming for engineers.

HS GPA- 3.3
SAT 1720- 610 math, 590 critical reading, and 520 writing
ACT- 26 composite - 29 math, 25 science, 27 reading and 22 writing

If get As in all my classes, what are my chances to get in?

And should I send just ACT scores or should I send both?

Does anyone have any tips

I see you’ve been waiting for an answer, so I’ll give you one. But it’s by no means definitive.

You don’t mention your HS curriculum or any AP classes or tests you’ve taken, nor any activities or leadership positions. Based on the info you did provide, I would say that you’re a little light for acceptance. From what I’ve seen, those accepted have SATs 1250+ (math/reading only) and higher weighted GPAs (they’ve taken many AP classes). Bear in mind that each engineering school has only about 30-50 new freshmen/year, and each year has brought more applicants.

I don’t think that your ACT will have any bearing. Rowan engineering favors the SAT.

I’m aware of a small minority of engineering grads who first went to community college, so I know it’s possible. Bear in mind, though, that Rowan’s 4-year undergrad curriculum is pretty set. Even if you do get in, you might be swimming upstream a bit.

So, here are my tips: If there’s a chance for admission and you’re borderline, the “optional” essay on your application is no longer “optional”. Do it! And make it compelling. Talk about what you bring to the table instead of just what’s in it for you.

Second, ask the people who count (I don’t). Contact the admissions office (in person is best), then ask them what you need to do to be considered for admission. This simple step, if done right, could move you up in line. You have nothing to lose. Act like you want to be there.

Good luck!

The only AP classes that I have taken are calc AB, physics B and psychology. I took the AP test for calc (4) and physics(4). I have sixty volunteer hours helping autistic children play sports. I am also a teen CERT (Certified emergency response team) and I have a TSA silver and bronze achievement medal.

I transferred from CC to Rowan for engineering. There are only spots equal to as many freshman dropped out. I was told the cutoff GPA was 3.7 or 3.8 for my year. They do not consider activities or volunteer work for transfers.
And you will be at Rowan for a minimum of 3 years even if you pass everything.

About how many students “wash out” of the rowan engineering program a year?

I was told they accepted 10 people to my engineering major (ECE) for the start of sophomore year. From then on, maybe 3-5 people dropped from sophomore to junior year. And after that point, even if you fail, you keep retaking classes so there were no more drops, just people getting left behind and taking longer to graduate.
