I just finished Community College with an AA. I have a 3.3 GPA. What are my chances of getting into UF political science BA program? If UF is out of reach, chances at FSU?

GPA requirement for Poli Sci BA at UF is 3.0. What else do they weight it on? Someone please help shed some light. Do i have a shot? Should i not hold my breath?? need a ballpark expectation.

You are good to go!! Consider an AA a golden ticket to any public university… However, be aware that you will probabaly not get any funding… I took the same route you did. Got my AA then applied to UF, UCF and FAU and I had 3.7 GPA… After being so psyched to be a gator, UF offered me loans, loans and more loans… UCF offered some aid but FAU covered it all and then some so I had to become an OWL!! If you don’t mind loans then go for it but I just don’t see any reason to get into that much debt for a B.A. and FSU will probably take you also but i don’t know about their financial aid prospects. Good luck!

Im on a 100% Bright Futures Scholarship so that is going to help a lot with classes and books. Room and board is gonna be another issue. But im glad you think i have a good chance of getting in. Plus I am trying to go to law school and a UF degree would hold more merit when its time to apply to law schools.

Yea the bright futures will help. Do you have any other form of aid such as Florida Pre-Paid or some other scholarships from outside sources?? Chances are if you do not and all you have is the bright futures, you will need loans and/or employment to take care of books and housing. Btw, 100% bright futures at a community college is not the same for a university. I also had 100% tuition coverage bright futures at CC but it only became 75% tuition coverage at the university level so you might want to look into that… But as I said earlier, I have b.f. & florida pre-paid and that still wasn’t enough to cover everything at UF… They still offered me loans that amounted to $12,000(though I can’t remember if it was per semester or the entire academic year)… Your best shot at getting scholarships at any school is from the school itself… Very rarely does a student get any aid from an outside source unless you’re coming right out of high school

Thanks a lot for your input. I made peace with that fact that i will need to take out some loans. Its just the reality of the situation. Plus any grad school is going to be out of pocket anyway.
