CC to USC

So my S got the "special group" letter today to meet with staff in June and get set on a transfer track in 2-3 semesters.....under their FAQ sheet that was included it spoke of entering a CC for Freshman year. Does anyone know if it would improve his chances if he moved and attended a CC in LA as opposed to attending one in Texas (it would be cheaper to stay!).

Our D attended CC in HI and then after her 1st semester applied to USC. She was admitted to start after she completed 3 semesters of CC. It saved us a lot having her take her CC courses in HI while commuting. If you aren’t sure, you can contact USC, but I don’t think they care whether your have your S take CC in TX or CA. I’d keep costs minimal, as USC is going to be pretty expensive to attend and any savings you can earmark toward his future expenses would be great!

The CC said that D was the 1st kid they know of who transferred from their CC to USC. She was well-prepared and did fine at USC, even getting into their cinema school, SCA, where she got her BA.

@HImom Thanks!

By the way, our D didn’t even apply or get any letter from USC, she just decided after her 1st semester at CC that she wanted to apply to transfer to USC, where her brother was a student and where many of her friends would be entering. USC does accept a significant # of transfer applicants.
