CC tranfer chances and .........maybe privates

Hi
I am ready o transfer out of the CC this coming year.

I plan to apply to:

UCs (I got TAG [Transfer Agreements] with most campuses] - safety

NYU (I am targeting this school)

Boston College (I am targeting this school)

BU

University of Washington

University of Michigan

Privates:

Brown

Cornell

Info:
At the time to apply my GPA will be 3.6 - 3.7ish
- I recently recieved a AA Degree. (I dont know if that going to have any emphasis).
- I finished all my GE and recieved my IGETC Certification. (Only for UCs and CSUs)
- I volunteer with the city I live in and participate in varies clubs
- I mostly got B's and A's on my transcript and just one C

I dont think SAT's count for Community College Transfers, but if it does:
my scores were:
SAT I: 1450/1600 & 2180/2400
SAT II: Language 800 , Math 800, History 780

Please chance me on all colleges if possible, not just the two privates I mentioned.

Thank you!

u’ll easily get into NYU, BU, Boston College, University of Michigan & Washington, & Cornell and Brown, judging ur #'s and S.A.T.

3.7 with S.A.T.'s like that is great

I came from a good CC, with a 3.8 (bad first semester, great 2nd, 3rd, and 4th semesters. GREAT ECs, was a congressional page in high school, 4.0 in high school, etc etc. I applied to nyu arts and sciences, was waitlisted and rejected. GW offered me a spot in spring, saying fall was filled.

yet, i got into UVa, out of state?

good luck, apply to a lot of schools, itll up your chances at this random process.

-Thanks Pro0 for your responce

Jas, I plan to apply to NYU’s business school and business schools of other colleges I apply to. What do you think my chances are for NYUs business school?

wjk08–I’m not so sure how much emphasis they’ll put on the fact that you have your A.A. degree. What major are you going into? Usually the classes you don’t want to have W’s in are the courses that are more major specific. In general, schools require that you complete some courses for the intended major at the CC level. Since your applying to multiple schools, I would think that the variety of classes you took would build a stronger app. For instance, applying to USC and UCLA (UCLA as Biz econ major) def helps out the app for USC since the mandatory accounting courses taken for UCLA are transferable for a first semesters work at USC. Look into who accepts what. Like I said, the extra coursework should look strong as long as its major specific.

What also builds a strong app are community service hours, internships, job history etc. But you’re grades are up there, and ultimately thats what they look for. Its nothing new really. I would say the only bad thing about your coursework would be the W’s. But then again you’re SAT scores are pretty high, so go figure.

I am a Business Econ/Admin or Accounting major.

Ya I might delete a semester out, if my counsulor says thats going to help me. But if that happens, I am still left with 1 W… non major related. Only thing I am worrrying about lately. To cover that up, I have been volunteering, internship with the city, jobs, and so on nonstop.

Can you chance me on the colleges I listed above?

I thought your GPA was 3.4? That’s what you said on your other thread.

You can’t ‘delete a semester out’

Ignore my other thread, people just got confused and someone PMed to write a more detailed thread.
So I opened this thread with specific and little more details.

Gray_Syntactics

My GPA was 3.4, but with my summer school grades in addition my gpa becomes 3.6 - 3.7. I have mentioned in my previous thread that my grade wasnt finalized.

You CAN “delete a semester out.” according to my counsulor. You can delete it only once but after 3 years. I am talking about a Community College. Which would eventually make my GPA higher, once again… according to my counsulor.

UCs (Safety)

NYU (Match)

Boston College (Match)

BU (Low Match/Safety)

University of Washington (If St Louis - maybe reach)

University of Michigan (Match/ Safety since they have a very high acceptance rate)

Privates:

Brown (REACH, no doubt its hard to get in there)

Cornell (Low reach/ Match)

These are based on your scores, but take a consideration that you also need good ECs and nice leadership positions!

This wll be a good year if you are a full pay transfer. NYU has lost students because of the economy.

wjk08> Are you referring to ‘Academic Renewal’ when you talk about ‘deleting a semester’? If so, your counselor may not have told you that schools outside of the UC/CSU system do not accept this and still count the grades you received. With Academic Renewal your grades still show up on your transcript.

wkj08–I’m not sure how safe the UC’s are given your choice of majors. I know for certain that UCLA is highly competitive with an average of a 3.8+ gpa for the majority of Biz Econ applicants. However, if you’re looking at Business Admin you want to shoot for Haas at UCB. But like I said about UCLA, its going tough getting in given its competitive nature.

However if you’re coming from a CC in California your chances among other transfers from out of state are much higher.
