CC Transfer.. I know I'm crazy :)

SAT I score: 1850 (I can't remember which, but math was high and my writing score sucked)

HS GPA: 4.0
(I was in homeschool for most of my high school time, and graduated with recommendation letters from the program's principal.)

College GPA: 3.27
(Weighted? I'm not even sure what to weight! Hahah)

ECs:
* ACM ICPC (programming contest) from a bit over a year ago.. we placed at #67 or something low like that but were the only community college (and no, we did not place last in our regional lol).
* college's ACM club vice president (although I'm not sure whether it's worth mentioning or not since it wasn't all that official) - we broke up the group that year due to lack of interest :(
* web design business (of sorts... more for fun than anything else)

I currently attend Diablo Valley College and want to transfer out next year into Computer Science or Electrical Engineering depending on how it's called. One thing I noticed when reading the information for Stanford, is when considering transfer students they like people who don't just go into prerequisites for their subject head first and ignore everything else.

I can't say I've taken the most unique classes or anything, but I did try to spice up my transcript! There are some odd things like architecture classes, various art/architecture history classes, astronomy, psychology, but I'm not sure they'd classify as ODD ENOUGH for Stanford heheh.

The SAT? Oh the SAT! It was taken blindly (I didn't even know what an SAT looked like until the night before and didn't really care). From what I've heard I could improve that score drastically had I studied geometry and read a bit more, but I don't really think I want to. If all else, I'm willing to take the SAT subject tests to prove myself a bit better.

The GPA used to be better, taking a 5 unit Chemistry class with a new professor (to teaching) ruined it pretty substantially; I along with the vast majority of the passing students received a C. (There were 2 girls that almost never attended labs that got As, I call shenanigans!) Calculus has been a varied success, with a C and a B (my 2nd class a B! Yay!) - I'm only proud of that for getting 93s on tests where everyone else did miserably lol. Anyway, I have yet to receive a recommendation from a Physics or Math teacher (although I intend to shortly), but I have from an .. English professor! How about that?!

With all of that said, watch out 2200 SAT students with 4.5 GPAs and ECs that include walking on water, I am applying! lol. I wanna hear about how I'll be rejected. :)

Now.. wanna hear why I am going to apply to Stanford? I love it; the campus is beautiful, the atmosphere seems exceptionally pleasant, and despite the posts I've seen here from concerned hyper-overachievers, I just don't see that kind of people on campus. I like the attitude too, encouraging a bit of randomness instead of just being a pin-head engineer that does nothing but worry about their math grades (although, I usually come out just fine with those.)

That evil GPA thing? I think I could do better, as it is I live at home with my mother and two brothers; the closest in age is autistic like the Rain Man, and the other? Fairly normal, but I think... I THINK.. he's got Aspergers, but I am not a psychologist. -_- Studying around them can prove to be quite the challenge at times. Damn, in the spring I had to drop my Physics class because I was beginning to go insane from trying to make things work.

I try to hang around the library more, and.. that sometimes works...

Such as life huh? :(

I have no idea how the admissions office evaluate transfer applications, but write a good essay (an essay about you family will be good) and try to bring that GPA up some more. Also consider the UCs as another possible option =)

Good luck! :)

Thank you  I thought it was odd that almost nobody appears to transfer from a CCC, but some CCCs are pretty decent. I’d like to do some more ECs but right now I’m not so sure (I have 2 physics classes coming up I’d like to get good grades in).

There’s one more thing - having grown up in Vallejo! I’m hoping that works to my advantage too. I wonder if they get that many applicants up here >>

I kinda wish I could just win the lottery and get in by donating a fat sum of money. :D

Few students transfer from CCCs because few students transfer at all to Stanford given that transfer applications are just as or more competitive than freshmen applications. However, considering the transfer competition from schools like berkeley, brown, etc., there are more community college students transferring to Stanford than most people would expect

^Only about 1-2% of transfer applicants are admitted to Stanford each year, a far lower percentage than even Stanford’s freshman admit rate of about 7%. The OP should understand that most transfer applicants will have much better GPAs from their first colleges and usually better SATs as well, and will be able to articulate reasons for wanting to transfer that are much more compelling than an observation that the atmosphere is exceptionally pleasant. I second the poster who suggested the OP also consider other colleges for transfer.

I’d be insane if I didn’t apply to other unis, now wouldn’t I? I’ve seen people posts stats not far off from mine who were advised to not bother with UCs and sign up for CSUs instead.

With an average situation I think a 4.0 GPA would be a ****ing piece of cake.

if you’re a URM and write an amazing essay, you will have a chance
