CC Transfer, Is my list realistic.

Hello, I’m currently a student at Palm Beach State College. It is not technically a community college anymore, but it has 100% acceptance rate so… I’m going with community college transfer to describe myself.

Anyways, I’m a 24 year old honors student involved with PTK, and have a 3.8 GPA. I plan to transfer as a Junior with my AA. My high-school grades were… low. Some of the schools on my list require High School transcripts, some don’t. I have a Resume and work experience to show for the time I was not College.

Here is the list of schools I plan on applying to, my question is are they realistic given my credentials.

  1. University of Florida
  2. New York University *Reach
  3. City University of New York – Baruch College
  4. Fordham University
  5. Indiana University – Bloomington *Safety
  6. Boston College
  7. University of Central Florida *Safety
  8. University of Connecticut *Safety
  9. University of Miami
  10. University of Michigan – Ann Arbor *Reach
  11. University of Rochester
  12. University of Texas At Austin
  13. University of Virginia
  14. Florida Atlantic University *Safety
  15. Villanova University

I would possibly mark UVA and BC down as middle-high reach schools as well. I’m a VA resident and I know that a lot of UVA’s class is filled up with VA residents as transfers because of residency and guaranteed articulation agreement. Definitely not unrealistic though! I think you’ll be fine at UF, Miami, FA, and CF because you are in-state. Not sure about the others. You have good stats though.

Thank You, I appreciate the feedback.

I was at a Florida CC to and I know some guy in my accounting class who got into NYU, but he had a 4.0 GPA with some solid letters of req. You’ll be able to get into any college in Florida including UF, 99% sure. I know this because I’m going through the same process and have done a bunch of research about the whole FL AA to in state transfer deal. Florida Universities are I would say “extremely” lenient towards Florida AA applicants. I’ve read people getting into UF with 3.2’s and so on. If I were you I would start comparing UF and schools like NYU’s tuition and costs. You’ll end up saving a ton of money and you can always transfer out for graduate school, which is what I plan to do.

Thanks, thats interesting to know. My only concern was that UF got crazy selective in 2017, going from 48% to 33% acceptance rate with a record number of applicants.

If you looked at the statistics of Florida AA transfers to UF with 3.6’s or higher,(including all prerequisites for major) you would probably see those numbers around 90%.
With that said, your list is completely reasonable, your reaches are reaches but of course there’s always a chance you’ll be accepted.

Your choice of major plays a major roll in your chances at UF. Some over-enrolled majors (like Nursing, Mechanical Engineering) are much harder than others. Your grades are more than competitive for most majors at UF. It’s only these over-enrolled programs that could prove a challenge.

Palm Beach State College is a Florida “CC”. When several Florida CC’s started to offer a small number of 4 year degrees, they renamed themselves “state colleges”. However, for in-state transfer purposes, they are a CC.

I applied to umich as a community college transfer from Washington and got in.
I had a 3.6 gpa and my only major notable thing was that I worked for a financial company while I was in school for over a year. [im 20 so perhaps my real life experience made me a little more appealing than some of my peers]

It was a reach for me but I’m sure youll do well if you have experience outside of just school

What major are you going for? That can make a huge difference at some of these schools.

Good question Phil, I kept hitting myself for not mentioning this in my post. I’m a Finance major, but willing to switch it up to plain business or management depending on what the school offers. For the sake of simplicity we can just say business major.

Its funny you bring that up, I was just researching Boston College, and saw that their B school is overfilled so about 10/200 transfers get it, which makes other stats like the acceptance rate, and average GPA deceiving.

Hey there,
Sorry for the delay, I missed the response notification.

Boston College (which I was denied from yesterday) told me that their transfer acceptance rate was tiny because of the prestige of the school. The same with Stern BTW. Lots of people apply within NYU to transfer from Econ -> Stern so you’d be competing with them and then external transfers like myself. They told me their transfer acceptance rate last year was single digits.

Baruch College (Zicklin Business) has specific criteria for direct admission to their b-school, make sure you check their website if you haven’t already. I was accepted into Baruch College but I didn’t make it into the b-school because I haven’t taken b-law and comp sci I think. However, AFAIK it’s open admission so as long as you meet minimum gpa and course requirements you’ll be allowed into the b-school.

You’ve looked at the common data sets for transfer acceptance rates right? They will be different from freshman acceptance rates. So I would move BC to a solid reach because it’s CSOM is a reach for almost everybody.

I don’t know about the competitive-ness of these FL schools, but I bet UVA-Mcintire’s transfer acceptance rate is lower than their overall acceptance rate.

As a reach, you should also consider USC. I know that they are transfer-friendly based off of some friends whom got in.

@Mevans6 Interesting to know. Thanks for posting, keeping this in mind.
