I currently attend a tier 2 university in FL and plan to transfer out after 2 years (~60 credits). While I am fully prepared to attend a better school in my state, I still plan on at least applying to some competitive schools up north (NY, Mass., etc.). If I don't get in I won't be too upset, but with the amount of effort I've been putting forth I feel like I deserve a shot. I'm kind of undecided as to whether I should transfer from my current university or from a local community college. Some schools, like Amherst for example, seem to prefer CC transfers. I'm about halfway through my first semester, if I were to leave now would be the time.

What do you guys think? Does it not matter as long as my GPA/recs/etc. are in order? The cost would be about the same since state scholarships pay for everything.

The only other threads I found with the same question were about pre-med/business, which I figured would have different standards.
