CC transfer q's

First post (yey)...

I'm currently cranking out 17-18 credits per semester at FSCJ and wondering if I really need to be doing this. Basically, I'm trying to complete my AA in 3 terms (will be done after fall 2014) then take the last 2 pre req Chem courses I need for the CLAS Botany major during spring and summer as my only courses next year.

I was intending to get my AA after fall 2014 then apply for fall '15 while my last pre reqs are in progress. What I'm wondering is, do I really need to be putting myself through the grinder? Will getting my AA first even matter? Could I drop a few humanities credits or whatever into spring/summer 2015 as long as I have them done BEFORE starting UF, or does having the AA first improve my chances? Even If I dropped a few classes for the AA requirement I'd be well north of 60 credits by this time next year.

I'm only doing it this way because I'm running on borrowed time and can't risk starting at UF during any term other than fall of 2015 and am assuming the sooner I have the AA wrapped up the better. Advisers at the CC only seem to know what's what about UNF so I've not yet gotten all the facts. I have a 4.0 GPA that I don't intend to let slip, I'm a native american (race card!) and I'm a vet FWIW - I don't see failure to transfer as any acceptable outcome in other words.

I really ought to get this stuff from an admissions adviser at the school but no dice thus far.

Make sure you have the AA and the requirements for Botany

Botany :Complete MAC 1147 (for basic botany track) or 2311 (for preprofessional botany track), CHM 2045 w/ lab, CHM 2046 w/ lab, BSC 2010 w/ lab, and BSC 2011 w/ lab.

that is what you need - how fast or slow is up to you.

Cool, thanks Melissa. Do you know if I could apply with my AA while my foreign lang courses are in progress, or must they be done prior to applying?

You can apply with foreign language classes still in progress. I did and one of the requirements of my admission was to have them finished before enrollment. You can also push the classes like humanities that are just needed for the AA to the last semester. As long as you have the AA completed before you enroll, that’s all that matters. If you are accepted they’ll let you registered in advance of final transcripts, but make you sign a form that states that you’re aware of what will happen if you don’t meet the conditions of your admission. You can get accepted without the AA, but it ups your chances. I just transferred from St. Johns River State, so I feel your pain about going to a school that only knows about transfers to UNF (which doesn’t have all the prereq requirements that UF does).
