I’m transferring from a CA community college; I have a 2.70 GPA. All of my classes are As and Bs, except for one semester I failed a class and got a C in another class; this of course really worries me! It was all because of health issues. I have a note from my doctor and I’m currently in the process of requesting to have my F changed to a W. If it’s approved, however, it won’t reflect on my transcript until after the deadline for the Fall 2013 applications. My major is Psychology or Sociology; to be honest, whichever would be easier to get into because I’ll be going to graduate school for Psychology (that’s the plan anyway).

It’s looking slim. I’ve heard of transfer students with 3.5+ GPAs who get rejected. However they likely didn’t have health issues, so that may save you depending on the severity of it.

I was in a similar situation as you, but with a higher GPA. I ended up with a 3.4 including an F in a non-essential GE class due to family issues. I got in touch with the person in admissions responsible for my application (this is done alphabetically and the admissions office can help you with this) and explained my situation. She said that as long as the grade was replaced or removed by the Spring before my first quarter at Poly, that it wouldn’t affect my admission. I highly recommend getting in touch with admissions about this and not just writing off your chances. Depending on what your GPA will be without this class, you could still have a chance.
