Cc transfer to nyu. Chance me!!

Hello,

So I am very new to this website so please bare with me. I am extremely interested in transferring to NYU, but I understand NYU is a highly competitive college so I want to know what are my chances. So chance me? If you have any advice or suggestion please do message me :D

Desire: NYU Steinhardt
Major: Media, Culture, Communication

STATS:
Current College: Pasadena City College in California
Previous College: UC - Davis
Overall GPA: 2.79 (my GPA at DAVIS really screwed me over cause I didn't do well in my first year)
Total completed Units: 54 semester units
In Progress Units: 13 units
Completed: IGETC, General Ed.

EC: Currently an intern at Warner Bros Pictures
Currently working part-time at Jamba Juice
Summer 09 internship at CBS Studios
Spring 09 internship at 1iota Productions
Member of World Wildlife Fund (Raising money through community fairs)

Special Factor: Sister is currently Tisch Film Student

So what do you think? I know because of my poor GPA screams underperformer but my personal achievements say otherwise.

To be honest your GPA is probably going to kill your chances. I’m a Comm student in Steinhardt and I know that the NYU admissions committee tends to be pretty forgiving about lower GPAs (at least more so than other top schools) but I just have a hard time believing that they would take anyone with under a 3.0.
I would suggest trying to get a 4.0 this semester. If you’re applying to spring transfer then get As on your midterms and send a midterm report even if NYU doesn’t ask for one, so that you can show then that your grades are improving.
Awesome essays wouldn’t hurt either.

Thank you so much for your reply.

Well I am doing very well with my current classes. I currently have As in my classes with the midterms done and just papers and finals to come. So if I bring my GPA up to 3.00, will that help? I was thinking if I should apply for Fall 2010 instead. Better?

Well I really want to know if Steinhardt’s admission is tough? Like I heard CAS is extremely difficult even though the other colleges are even worse, but the last released acceptance for Steinhardt was 25%, 1% better than CAS. So I am extremely pessimistic about my chances.

Steinhardt MCC is actually pretty selective. even with a 3.00, your GPA will still be too low. i transferred to MCC in 2008.

Your ecs are quite impressive but that 2.79 is a killer. Try getting a 4.0 this semester and explain why your gpa is so low. NYU likes turnaround stories so you never know.

So should I wait and apply for Fall 2010 instead of applying for Spring 2010? Or should I apply for both? If I do, I need to quickly assemble everything together to have my application and supplements received before the Nov 1st deadline.

But my question is if I do bring my GPA above a 3.0, will they still consider me?

i mean, i applied for spring 2008 and i had REALLY good ECs and amazing essays and one awesome rec and one so-so one. but i also had a 3.52 from a NY CC.

i would personally wait and try to transfer into the fall class. while more people will be applying, your GPA right now is just too low to compete with other spring transfers.
