To people who transferred from a community college to a state school, I would like to know what state is everyone from, what school did they get accepted from as a transfer, and what was there college GPA?

I'm from Virginia and I graduated high school with a 2.4 gpa last year. I almost lost hope of going to any of the competitive state schools (Vtech, JMU, etc..). Now that I got a 3.7 in my first semester at a community college and reading this forum, I feel some sort of academic motivation that makes me want to transfer to schools like UVA, William & Mary and many of the top private colleges (as a junior of course) in 2007. I mean it's astonishing how my feelings of academics changed over less than a year. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Or am I just having this college high from this college forum addiction? I can't get enough of hearing people mess up their high school and then enter a community college and transfer to a competitive university.

Dude sb, I'm in the same boat as you. I'm in a community college and just doin great with a 3.8, I had a 2.7 in high school. My interest in academia has grown big time since high school. Instead of looking at the easier schools to get into my state (Illinois), I'm now looking at Madison, Champaign, possibly even Ann-Arbor. I mean we all thrash community colleges and make fun of how depressing it is, but it gives people like us with academic talent who messed up in high school for whatever reason to have a shot at schools we never thought we had a realistic shot at. So no you are not the only one, so keep keep on truckin' and keep hope alive.
Peace

Less than 2.0 gpa in HS....3.86 in college as a freshman....long story lol But congrats to all you guys....good to know not everyone here left HS with a 4.2 gpa and 2350 SAT

I dropped out of high school in the 10th grade with a .9 GPA. I got 6 Fs that year. Didn't take the SATs. Didn't get a job.

Over the subsequent four years I realized how horrible a mistake I had made and knew that I would essentially have to start from scratch. I enrolled in the dreaded 'community college' and became subject to the aforementioned social stigma. However I eventually learned that a good academic career at a CC can almost take you anywhere. I've heard some really amazing success stories.

I am graduating this semester with a 3.85, I took the SATs five years after high school, (this fall) and I am president of one student organization relating to my major and VP of another. I have applied to UVA, William & Mary, Tech and Longwood. I honestly believe that if I can make it, almost anyone can make it. (and if I don't make it, then everyone can just go to hell)

Good luck to you, but with hard work and dedication I don't really think you'll need it.
