Hey guys I’m a Canadian student who was released off the extended waitlist a few months back and am planning to apply for transfer this fall after spending a year at college in Canada. I was wondering, does Columbia keep applications of past years on file, and if so, would the fact that I was kept on the waitlist until the last minute render my transfer application even the slightest bit more compelling? And also, I know Canadians count as international applicants in the sense that they aren’t American, but when the admissions officers are reading the files are Canadian applicants lumped in with the rest of the world when it comes to financial aid? And if so I’m assuming it would probably hurt my chances more as a transfer than as a high school senior to be asking for financial aid? A bit of a loaded inquiry I know, thanks a metric ton guys!!

It’s my understanding that Columbia will see that you were previously waitlisted and hopefully this will help you to get in this time! I was waitlisted as a sophomore transfer so I’m trying one last time as a Junior transfer this cycle. As far as fin aid, I pulled this up from the frequently asked questions “Please be aware that Columbia is need-aware in its admission of international students. International applicants must apply for and demonstrate financial need at the time of admission.” So you won’t be lumped in with the rest, but I don’t think your need for fin aid will really hurt your chances of acceptance.
Yeah let’s hope for both our sakes that they take our previous applications in a positive light!
