No, UCBChemEGrad is a great poster. Like Alexandre, he supports his alma mater while maintaining a reasonably objective perspective. There have been much more rabid Berkeley boosters. In all fairness, this seems to have tamed down considerably within the last year or so.

Georgetown, UC Berkeley are underrated. UChicago, WUSTL I think is overrated on CC forums. Cornell and Brown are underrated as well.

Whooooooooot go ubc =)

Based only on my personal observation, UC Berkeley, UMich, UVa, UCLA, JHU and Rice are underrated.

WUSTL is overrated.
Duke is overrated.
of the ivies, UPenn and Dartmouth are the most overrated.
Rice, JHU, and NYU are pretty underrated here.

Brown is overrated here, while underrated in the real world. Lots of CC weirdos.

Did you read the thread title? This thread isn't about which schools you think are overrated.

This may sound weird because it's an Ivy, but Cornell is definitely underrated. Cornell has the sort of mission philosophy that hurts its selectivity and for this, other Ivy students ridicule it.

Penn students are especially merciless. You know why? Because not too long ago, Penn shared the Ivy cellar with Cornell and its afraid of going back. Some people, however, think that Penn has never left. Given that Penn still has the second highest Ivy acceptance rate, enrolls nearly half its class through Early Decision and will have a disappointingly low batch of applications for this incoming class, maybe Penn is still stuck in the Ivy basement indeed.

Really, the ironic thing is that Penn has a very similar mission statement to Cornell. In any event, Penn is no less a practical "trade" school as Cornell.

^^ That is absurd. You obviously know nothing about Penn. While you could argue that Wharton is a "trade school", do you know anything at all about the excellence of CAS?
I can assure you that Penn does not quake (pun intended) in fear at being in the "cellar" of the Ivy League. Cornell is a wonderful school. ALL the Ivy League schools (and hundreds of others as well) are wonderful schools. Why stoop to bashing Penn to try to elevate Cornell? You are giving your "northeast" a bad name!

Actually I was neither born nor raised in the "Northeast." I also attended school on the West Coast.

That being said, I am only defending Cornell against the Penn apologists on CC who go so far as to insult Cornell in its very own forum.

Too bad you cannot accept Penn's lesser Ivy status. HYP, Brown, Columbia and Dartmouth all defeat Penn in cross-admit battles. So, yes, Penn should enjoy the Ivy cellar with Cornell because the way things look, it'll be there for a long time.

^^ I find it sad that you are so hung up on prestige and various rankings. I can find rankings for you that have Penn ranked higher than Brown or Dartmouth. I put little stock in any of them! You are so focused on what is more "prestigious" in what part of the country, that you resort to insulting schools and people. What's the point?
People who are secure in their choices can recognize the drawbacks of their schools/environments as well as the good. Penn isn't perfect. Neither is Cornell. Some Penn students get tired of the gritty city, while at the same time appreciating the clubs and restaurants. I know a number of Cornell grads/students who got very tired of the winters and the isolation of Ithaca. That doesn't mean their schools are "lesser".

Given that I am not affiliated with either Cornell or Penn, my assessments of both schools can be reasonably objective. You, however, do have a kid at Penn, no? I've heard you brag about it as much. How ironic, then, that you accuse me of being insecure. Secure people don't really need to brag, now do they?

^^ I don't do much bragging when it comes to my kid at Penn, although it seems to be working well for him. In fact, I get in trouble on the Penn forum for pointing out the negatives of the place and Philadelphia (my home town) in particular! You must not have read many of my posts if you think I brag about Penn. What you been smokin'??

Given that you are not affiliated with either Cornell or Penn, it makes me wonder what credibility you have. Oh wait- none!

"UChicago, WUSTL I think is overrated on CC forums."

"WUSTL is overrated.
Duke is overrated."

Since when are these 3 schools overrated on CC forums? These are the 3 excellent schools that have been bashed by the ignorant CC kids and parents most often. And the very obvious similarity that these schools have which might have caused those stupid people to bash them is their non-ivy status and yet they are ranked highly in USNEWS.

People in general only allow Stanford and MIT (and prolly Caltech too) to be ranked as highly as the ivies which is kinda sad. That kinda mentality simply shows how shallow those people are and how obsessed they are with ivy league, without knowing or realizing that besides HYP, the rest of the ivies are no different than any of the top 20 schools in the nation.

Why do I believe UChicago is overrated on USNews? Here is a shocker:

Chicago was ranked #15 when I applied to colleges in 2006. In 2007, it was ranked 9th place. Chicago's graduation rate went from 20th to 18th slot and everything else stayed the same.

To tell you the truth...I don't know what happened... How a university can jump SIX (6) spots in just 1 year. lol

Rome wasn't built in a day...

From '97 to '98, UPenn jumped from 13th to 7th.
Six spots in one year.

NMSU (New Mexico State University). They don't even have a profile on CC.

From 1995 to 1996, JHU jumped from 22 to 10. That's "TWELVE (12) spots in just 1 year."

From 1999 to 2000, JHU jumped from 14 to 7. That's "SEVEN (7) spots in just 1 year."

It's no secret why Chicago jumped in USNWR. Several critical pieces of the survey were misreported and misinterpreted.
