CC vs 4 year (transfer)

Hey all, I am soon to be a student at a community college with an intention to transfer. While my gpa is completely hypothetical at this point, lets say I get a 3.75-3.9. If I do as I say, what are my chances of getting into a school like UMich or Northwestern? I've heard that a ~3.8 makes you competetive at either school, but from a 4 year university. What I am trying to ask is if a cc gpa is held with a different weight as compared to a 4 year when transfering.

Thanks

Your GPA will be viewed in the context of your school. So if you go to Caltech, where a 4.0 is all but impossible, it’s a whole different thing than attending a school where 20% of grads have a 4.0.

Thanks. More specifically though, If I had around a 3.8 from a cc, would I be competetive to transfer to a school like NW or would I need a higher gpa because I am tranfering from a cc?

What I am about to do is completely wrong and immoral.

bump bump bump

bump, bump, pmub

bmp, bmp, bmp

A 3.8 certainly shouldn’t keep you out, but we don’t know your SAT scores, quality of prof recs you can get, whether you took the hardest classes your CC offered, activities, etc.
