I am an international student (who wants to transfer after 2years of cc) and I would like to ask you, if you could recommend any CC in the state of California WITH on-campus housing.
I read much about De Anza, SMC, SBCC,.. but all of them dont offer the appropriate housing options for me. What do you think about West Hills ?
I also read that Butte is a party school .. what do you think about butte?

You might want to check out Sierra College, in Rocklin California (just outside of Sacramento). Sierra College is one of the few CA community colleges with an on-campus residential hall. I went there when I was a college student (I’m a parent now) and liked it. Butte College is outside of Chico, CA, which is a nice area, but it is kind of remote. If you would like to be in more of an urban/suburban environment, I wouldn’t recommend Butte. I’m not very familiar with the rest of the community colleges you recommended. Good luck!

There is a private dorm that houses SBCC students, so you get the “college experience” of living among 900 other freshmen. It’s in the same neighborhood as all the UCSB housing, so you get to hang out with 1000’s of college kids every day. There is a bus that takes you to SBCC for free. Santa Barbara is beautiful!

Thanks for the responses! @karenee: Do you know the name of this housing opportunity at sbcc? is there any special name for this?

@1NonTradStudent, vineyardview: Do you would recommend Sierra for international students? Do they provide good services in their transfer office?

You might have to do some research yourself on the school. Check out the stats for the school. If you click on the link I gave in post #5, there’s a “Data Mart” link on the left that lets you search on any CA CC for just about any year. Looking at Sierra College 2010-2011: there’s a small percentage of international students. You have think about what that means for you. You might feel more comfortable around more international students. But, I think college is about pushing yourself outside your comfort zone a little.

As for the transfer office, I haven’t used Sierra’s myself. Check out their [Career and Transfer Connections](http://www.sierracollege.edu/student-services/academic-support/transfer-center/index.php). From my own experience, my current CC has a crappy small-room, one-person employed transfer center at a school with a 14% transfer rate. But, the lady there was awesome. She gave me a lot of info I didn’t know before. And most importantly, she got me to really think about the list of schools I applied to. So far, I’ve been admitted to 7 schools and I’m waiting to hear back on three others. My GPA stinks so I went into that transfer center a lot! I wanted to write good essays for my applications. I really got the help I needed and think I came out with the best essay I’ve ever written.

So, I guess what I’m saying is that it’s all about you and what you do with the resources you’re given.

SBCC is one of the college that I’m considering too, mainly cause of the lower tuition fees for international students plus the private housing available too.

However, my parents are concerned about the party scene at IV. Anyone who are current students there can kindly advice?
