CCC help.

Hey, i just talk to a conselour at my CCC, she advised me to take a P/NP instead of a letter grade in all the pre-req or non- UC transferable classes. So that it won't somehow end up hurting my GPA, because UC can see your overall GPA even if the units don't transfer. Is this a good idea? And will too many P's /Np's on your transcript make you look bad?

it shouldn't matter since they're non transferrable classes anyway...it won't count toward your gpa so P/NP should be fine

excellent idea...I switched a remedial math class I took to a pass no pass so it wouldn't affect my gpa. Also, it makes it easier because it allows you to allocate your resources (you can focus on your UC transferable courses versus maintaining a 90% average in the remedial class)

Do you have to choose to take a P/NP at the beginning of the course or can you choose it when grades are out?

^ Hahah nope. Theres usually a deadline somewhere around the middle of the semester to petition for p/np.

what? i was told these classes dont count at all when transferring. i got C's in my pre req classes cuz i focused on my transferable classes. if this is the case my gpa would drop dramatically. say it aint so.

Well, you have an overall GPA that includes ALL the classes that you took while at a CC, then you have a UC GPA which only includes your GPA from classes that UC transferable, then theres your major GPA which only includes your GPA from all your major prep classes. Although some units do not transfer to the UC level, the UC's will still be able to see your overall GPA, this includes like some pe classes, pre req. and such. therefore, it wouldn't look too good if its lower than your UC GPA.

thats a bunch of crap. so what if my MAJor gpa is a 4.0, Uc- gpa 3.5 and then my overall gpa like a 3.0. does that mean im ****ed
