CCC to... Stern?

I've been reading various threads in the transfer forum that seem to be painting very different pictures, so I'd appreciate a bit of advice here. :)

First, is it easier or harder to get admitted into Stern as a transfer? One would imagine it would be more difficult, but I've seen people indicate otherwise.

Next, I realize that these days any sort of transfer is possible. Coming from a CCC, however, how much of a disadvantage am I at when I decide to apply? For an honors CCC student with a 3.9-4.0 GPA, some decent EC's, etc... would this be considered a reach?

Finally, I'm reading conflicting posts regarding both Stern and other universities. Short of it is: Can you retake the SAT I+II after high school to raise your scores before transfer?

Any other information about transferring to Stern is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

soph or junior transfer? Sats? High School Grades? Activities?

Stern does not take into consideration SAT's taken after you have completed high school. There is a message board on the NYU site that may be of more specific help as well.

"For 2007, we do not expect to give significant weight in the admissions process to either the SAT Writing section or the ACT Writing Test.

If you are applying as a transfer student and you took either one of these tests while in high school, you should not retake the tests now; simply submit the results of your high school SAT or ACT examinations. If you did not take SAT or ACT examinations in high school and have been in college less than one year, you must take one of these tests and submit the results as part of your application."

Would transfer whenever I could, really.

Ack. Only took the SAT once: 710 M / 680 CR / 620 W (8). HS GPA is probably just over 3.0UW? Senior year really went downhill for me.

Activities in HS are nothing spectacular: ASB (one year), choir (one year), yearbook (one year officially - generally helped out the following year), Key Club (board member two years / member for three), algebra tutor (one year,) tried to start my own non-profit and got a bit of press for that... but that ultimately failed. [Did a couple other things off the record as well... helped the school's campaign to get a parcel tax passed, created a couple public awareness campaigns for charitable funds, heavily criticize my student gov't --- and tried to do something about it.]

I'm surprised to hear so much focus on HS when transferring. I imagine my time at CCC would be better... at the least, I know my GPA will certainly be.

3.9-4.0 GPA after a semester with your high school grades might be a reach. Applying as a junior transfer with that kind of GPA, I would say you have a great chance. As a Sophmore transfer your High School grades will still be heavily weighted because they cant base admission upon one semester worth of college grades and would therefore have to use high school stats to base admission also.
