California Community College
GPA at current institution: 3.75
GPA cumulative:3.4 (because of ccc grades received while I was in HS)
2 years have lapsed since I graduated High School.

EC: Vice President of Student Government (Presently a Senator)
President of Philosophy Club
Phi Theta Kappa Regional Officer
Phi Theta Kappa Chapter President
Senator for California Student Senate (prospective)

IGETC finished by time of application
Major Prep (none are transferable)

But, I contacted the appropriate professors at Berkeley and obtained their syllabus' in order to read it and study the material ahead of time. Also, since I'll be done with IGETC by Fall of 07', I'm going to do direct studies under a professor till the end of spring 08'.

The GPA is competitive for UC Berkeley CAS for the past two years, although the overall CC GPA is not. If you took classes that were academically rigorous, you should be okay.

You will need to stress the fact that you are much more focused on your studies since leaving high school and point out how the grades have improved since going to CC.

And you should apply to some of the other UCs (UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, UCI or UCD) just in case you don't get Berkeley.

I give you about a 58% to 60% chance--but it all depends upon whether they focus just on the college time (which they should) and not on the entire list of college courses taken.

Yea, I understand that I'm currently not in their "Median GPA" range. What was it, "3.53-3.88" or something of that nature.

As far as the class rigorousness goes, I have been taking 17 units + every semester since I graduated HS. The classes themselves are not extremely academically challenging- mostly being survey courses to meet the IGETC part, but all my major related courses, intro philosophy, history of philosophy, etc.., are where I received flawless marks.

If I knew that community college grades do not ever get replaced if they are passing grades, I would have either dropped those courses I took in HS.

If it helps, I had a 3.0 in HS, never earning a 4.0 till my final semester of senior year; and following right after, I went to a community college and took summer school earning a 4.0 at the end.

My second choice is UCLA, but I still rather go to UC Berkeley. I'm willing to wait another year and apply with a higher GPA, I'm in no hurry.
