CCC Transfer Student GPA for CSU Application

Hi please help me figure out how to do this GPA right for the CSU application.

This application asks for

Attempted Units
Completed Units
Cumulative GPA
Transferable GPA

Do W’s count as “3 units attempted, 0 grade points” ?

Do I include Ws in my Attempted units, my Completed units, or both ?
Do I include Ws only for classes that would have been transferable only ?
Do I include non transferable classes in my cumulative GPA?
Do I include Ws in my cumulative GPA, if so, CSU transferable only or any W ?

For Transferable GPA

Do I include Ws

In calculating my GPA for any of these for the CSU application, do I divide units attempted by grade points or units completed by grade points or is it units transferable by grade points ?

Thank you !

Good questions. The CSU mentor video tutorial is completely unhelpful in answering questions. I was trying to help a student and we had a few other questions, as well.

What are grade points as opposed to GPA? How does one figure the grade points?

Why are they asking for two ID numbers?

I think I figured it out with the help of a few others on here. Grade points are used to calculate your GPA. An A is worth 4 points but you multiply the 4 points with the unit value of that class so a 3 unit class you got an A in is 12 grade points. B is worth 3, C is 2 and D is 1 F is 0.
Suppose you have a 3 unit class if you got a B it would be 3 x 3 = 9. If you had a C it would be 3 x 2 = 6 a D in a class is 3 x 1 = 3 and finally F 3 x 0 = 0 grade points.

The application asks for GPA s for each college attended and asks for units attempted as well as units completed. Ws do not count, and in most cases any academic renewal classes do not count when adding up the units attempted. Units attempted is just your total CSU transferable units including Ds and Fs whereas units completed is only CSU transferable courses completed with C or higher.

You add up all the grade points and you add up the units attempted of all CSU transferable courses. Divide your grade points total by the units attempted for your GPA.

For the cumulative GPA on the next page you add up all CSU transferable units attempted from all colleges attended and the grade points and divide these to get your overall cumulative GPA, the important one.

As for the ID numbers, the CCCID isn’t likely something you have, you gotta call an information desk in Sacramento to get it … Seriously. Go onto CCCapply webpage and find the phone number under contacts for help. You can search this forum I made a post about it somewhere. I don’t know why this application is written the way it is and why things are demanded but it was a pain to figure all this out. Any other questions ask me, I won’t guess only tell you what I know. Good luck.

The “units attempted” and “grade points” sections are optional and can be left blank actually.

They’re just there to help you calculate your transferrable GPA if you haven’t already done so

@BackNSchool83 So basically, the GPA they’re asking for each of attended colleges is only the transferrable GPA?

Yes
