HI! i'm currently attending a california community college. I have a 3.69 GPA, lots of EC, phi theta kappa memeber, not part of TAP, i will complete the IGETC and most of my major prep courses...i would like to know what is my chance of getting into the Molecular and Cell biology department at

a)UCLA
b)Berkeley
c)UCSD
d)UCI
e)USC

also on the down side, i have two Ws on my transcript...thanks..

well....the thing is, molecular biology and genetics are not offer at my college, so i won't be able to complete those classes...and for physics, i think i will finish it if i have the chance to enroll into the class this winter...i've completed all others major prep...thank you so much for your reply...

I think you have a decent shot . Definately should try. I know that for the UC's most major departments ignore a couple of w's on your record. They do :frown on it" though if you have a pattern of them, meaning you tend to get one every other semester for three or more semesters. I hesitate to say don't worry about it just because of your major. Molecular bio, any of the hard sciences for that matter and Econ are no nonsense majors when applying to the schools you listed you have to be as close to flawless as possible the w's would weigh in more than if you were applying as say an Anthorpology major. They are very competitive and there will be hundreds if not thousands of people with identical stats and no w's. I'm not trying to scare you but this is what I hear from UC reps.

I don't think the W's are a big deal at all. All the reps I talked to said that they ignore them if you have a few. So I wouldn't bother worrying about it.

Also if your school doesn't have classes that transfer to fufill preq's that won't be held against you. Molecular and Cell biology is hard to get into, but you do have a decent shot at both schools. Somewhere in the ballpark of a 50% chance im guessing. A bit higher if you have some good ec's and employment.

Getting into UCSD, UCI, USC are much easier. Your chances are really good at all those schools.

I really appreciate all the replies!!! So you said that I have a better chance for Berkeley if I apply for Integrated Biology...i want to go to medical school after my four years, so is it better to major in molecular biology or integrated biology??...thanks again..

WOW. I feel like I'm talking to myself. I also attend a Community College in Illinois. My GPA there is 3.17(OUCH!) And I got accepted to University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, which is a top tier school. 9th ranked national (Public) University in the nation. I was surpried by that fact. Anyway, so yeah I'm also a Integrative Biology major or will be at U of I. If you go look at the Berkeley website they will have all the info you need on selecting the right biology speciality for pre-med students. I looked at the U of I website and they recommend Intergrative Biology for pre-med students.

i hope i'm as lucky as you are Mr. Patel...but berkeley is the number one public school in the nation, so i'm goin to be realistic here...i know my chance is more than slim, but i'm goin to give it a shot..thanks for the reply...
