Now I have to choose between them. The 2nd tier schools are the state schools that are not flagships.
I definitely want to transfer to a good or even top school. Which kind of college should I choose?

Thanks!

All depends on where you’re attempting to transfer to. If it is a UC school then choose a CCC because CCC students receive priority over other institutions.

If you are ok with graduating from the state school you attend and you want the 4-year college experience, then attend the state school and apply for transfer. If you are sure you want to go to a UC, then a CCC is better. 7 of the 9 UC campuses have Transfer Admission Guarantee. UCLA has TAP which gives you further consideration for majors in College of Letters and Science.

TAP: [Transfer Alliance Program - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/ADM_CCO/tap.htm)

If you’re interested in transferring to a top-tier UC then CCC’s are the way to go. That being said it isn’t impossible to pull off a UC-UC transfer. Pulling off a CSU to UC transfer is almost unheard of though if that’s something you were considering.

CSU-UC transfers do happen, it’s just a lot more work because you have to meticulously comb through the UC requirements and your CSU catalog to find matching courses.
