would you guys say that CCers are indicative of the overall applicant pool to Yale? Just looking through some stats, everyone seems overqualified. I know that this is typically the case at a place like Yale, but would you say that every applicant to Yale is as strong as most CCers?

Dear Lord, I hope not. On the other hand, there probably aren't as many legacies and athletes here, so it's a bit of a tradeoff.

sadly, i think so. i bet everyone here is really pretty normal for yale.

im a legacy...but my stats are not quite as good as most other peoples (good for practically anywhere else and certainly respectable) so i hope it evens out and i get considered

AAAAAAA 3Days

Nah, I honestly think a lot of the applicants at Yale (and any other selective school) are made up from the average kids (B average, 2000 SAT etc.).

Now the applicants that are actually accepted? I think CC is a pretty good indication of those.

I disagree ("B average and 2000 sats)
at the yale info meeting (100 years ago in september) they said about 1/4 of the 20,000 applicants are rejected cause they don't meet basic academic standards for yale , but 3/4s do. just what the cut off is......

cc can't be that indicative of those accepted because if you look through last years accepted/deferred/rejected threads (or this years for Brown and Columbia) there are a whole lot more rejections and deferrrs (yes some will get in) than acceptances

the cutoff is about 1300 cause harvard said that 56 percent of applicants last year scored 1400 or higher and that 75-85% were academically qualified. i'm guessing it should be about the same for Yale.

I agree with both officegirl and freshelephant (interesting name lol) to an extent. I think people on CC are among the more qualified who apply, but that doesn't mean everyone else is qualified as well. Also, just because people on CC get deffered and rejected doesn't mean that the people who get accepted all have something that all theym don't, it simply means they were looking for something a bit different. It's such a crapshoot that no matter how qualified you are, nothing is a guarantee.
