CCI Laptop Grant

Hi guys!

I was offered a CCI laptop grant. I have my own MacBook Pro (relatively new) but it’s sometimes slow. Should I accept the laptop grant? Also, a dumb question but do you keep or return your laptop after graduation?

I feel like I should just go with my laptop, but if they’re offering a free computer, I feel compelled to accept. Are these grants typically for students who do not have a laptop of their own before college?

Thanks!

Go with the CCI computer and the laptop grant; I believe that you can get a warranty for all 4 years, you can have it repaired by the tech department located at student stores, and you can keep it after graduation (although if you leave UNC prior to graduating you have to pay a pro-rated amount of money).

I suspect that the program is to make sure that there is a modicum of similarity in computing capability among UNC students.

Here is a link that may answer some of your questions: http://help.unc.edu/help/carolina-computing-initiative-cci-student-faq/

I would go with the laptop grant. You can pay to upgrade if you want. You will have a warranty, you can get it repaired on campus very easily and it’s yours when you graduate.

Also, mine said “This award will cover the full cost of the CCI ThinkPad 13 Laptop Package.” that particular laptop is only $1008 but i want a mac that is $2290. So will I have to pick up the cost over the thousand dollars of the thinkpad 13?

How much is the award?

It covers the Thinkpad 13 Laptop Package, which is $1029 with tax.
