CCM composition program

Hi, everyone! Dose anyone know about the undergraduate composition programs in CCM? I got accepted by CCM for BM composition. Still waiting for BOCO, NEC, MSM. But I want to make my final decision as soon as possible.

I am looking for weekly private lessons, serious training, good electronic program and more performance opportunities in one school.

Is CCM a good place for my final decision? Or maybe I should wait for other schools' result?

Since you have until May 1st, you should wait to hear from the others. You have some good options still left. Not the time to make a rushed judgment as CCM does not appear to have front runner status. I know NEC meets your requitements. That’s not to say the others don’t either.

My S has been accepted into the VP curriculum at CCM…and it’s his first choice. Still, he’s being very careful to not “declare” prematurely with another audition and two other official decisions still to come. No reason why you need to pull the trigger right now, either. What I would ask is why do you feel compelled to make your decision “as soon as possible” when there’s no institutional pressure to do so ??

For the record, I cannot help you with anything on CCM’s composition curriculum. However, like every other school in the universe, CCM could be completely wrong for you…or THE best decision you ever made.

Thank you Compdad and wvuguy. It causes some private reasons. Not necessary, but I would like to emotionally. After reading your advice, I think I should waiting till May 1st. My personal thinking should not be the factor to push me to make decision so fast.

When you have your acceptances, it is perfectly acceptable to address those questions to the schools themselves. Preferably to the studio professor you will be working with. Once acceptances are in, the tables turn and YOU are interviewing THEM to see what is the best offer and fit.

I agree you should wait and process your choices when you know exactly what they are. You have worked this hard to gain admission to all of these schools. Wait a little longer. Regardless of your decison you do not want to regret making a quick decision years from now. My son withdrew from an audition and I made him wait and think about it for a week before he cancelled audition so he was sure before he closed the door on that one that this was what he really wanted.

At this point in the process we have decided that there is not perfect school for my son, also a composer. It is a matter of weighing what is best a each school. When we began this process we really thought we would find “the perfect school.” I also think assuming you have several good choice and done all or your research, go should go with your gut about where you would happiest. I am also not longer sure the best name school is always the best school. Good luck to you.

JazzUp, what is your instrument? A former schoolmate of mine is now at BoCo and he plays both piano and cello very well but told me that he’s forced to use piano as his primary instrument there for lessons, etc. Something to consider for that school, but having already sent your portfolio and whatnot you probably already know this.

JazzUp - Wait, don’t do anything prematurely. For one thing you don’t know your financial packages yet - and, if you decide you really want to go to School X but School Y has offered you a better package - then you can try to negotiate to get School X to match or come closer to the other offer.

As for CCM - They do have a vibrant composition program, but almost everyone I know who’s in it, is in the grad school. You’ll want to find out what performance opportunities there are for undergrads. And, all the questions you asked us above, you’ll need to ask each of the programs to which you’re accepted.

You’ve got time to wait, yet May 1 is not very far away - it will be here before you know it.

Thanks, everyone. You guys provide me so many information which I forgot to notice. PianoMan12, I really don’t know that yet. But as I play piano, so it won’t bother me. SpiritManager, it is a good notice about financial packages. I’ll remember that! Well, there are so many factors related to my final decision.

Seems I need to wait. Though waiting is painful :stuck_out_tongue: Anyway, Thanks!

You will probably hear in early April, right? So just 3 weeks. Get good sleep and exercise, or whatever helps you with the stress of waiting! Good luck!

Compmom’s right - you should hear from all your schools in the next three weeks or so, then it will be the hard part - choosing between them! You’ve got until May 1 for that. So, take your time, visit, email, talk to other students in the programs, listen to the music of the composition professors, as well as the other students, if possible, look at the curriculums and course offerings - it will all slowly get clearer.
