CC's Academic Ranking

dufus, where did you hear/read about SAT IIs being ignored? i didn't know of the importance of SAT IIs until I found this site (in my senior year, alas)...

lol when i put in my rank 1/152 it gives me an 8 out of 9

but when i just put in GPA it gives me a 9 out of 9

that doesn't seem very accurate

raindrop1019: The SAT II's are important, but not so much in the calculation of the AI. The point is that the AI isn't so useful. I think it tends to encourage people who shouldn't be encouraged and discourage people who shouldn't be discouraged. Actually in testing it, I found that the AI calculator at CC isn't ignoring the SAT II's if they are lower that the SAT I. There are two ways of calculating the AI.

1) (Math + Verbal)/10 + CRS

2) ((Math + Verbal) / 10) / 2 + (Avg SAT II)/10 + CRS

CRS is the Class Rank Score and can be from 1-80. The maximum AI is therefore 240.

oh ok thanks for the explanation!

Should I be worried about my 4/9 then? I mean that kind of sucks for HYPMS which is what I'm gunning for. I mean even in terms of academics, I have a great rising trend (well sorta-almost all B's for the first 3 semesters, then all A's) and I only took the Sat 1 once and did sorta bad. (700W 700V 660M) I have no Sat 2's, I just put in 700 for all when calculating with it.

Being a hooked applicant (URM, legacy, athlete, etc) can have a significant effect. For an unhooked applicant, look at the 50% SAT ranges for the college. If you are above the 75% mark, it is a safety. If you are at the 50-60% mark, then it is a match. If you are at the 25-40% mark, it is a reach. This system breaks down somewhat at the super elite colleges that have 50% SAT ranges of perhaps 1400-1580 (yes, one out of every four people have either a 1590 or 1600). At these colleges, they just don't have room for every super qualified applicant. There are 4 or 5 super qualified applicants for each slot and they have to pick only 1 of them. The acceptance rate for people with 1600's is around 40-45%. The overall acceptance rate at HYP is 10%. If you don't fit into this, apply anyway but pick your other colleges more conservatively.

I would not pay any real attention to the AI. A hooked applicant can have a very good chance with a middle score, and an unhooked applicant can be practically hopeless with a 9.

Unless you have some amazing talent or accomplishment, that 4/9 seems about right for HYPSM. Your chances are low.

where is it...can anyone give me the link...the rank thing

Take the CPI with a grain of salt...I mean if you get a 2 or 3 you know you don't have much change at elite colleges...but then looking at your stats you should have figured that out anyway.

I'm a 7/9, 224 index?
