Currently I am a freshman at a high school in CD 9 hoping to apply to NCSSM. I know CD 9 is very competitive, so I was wondering if i have a chance.
I’m taking
Math 3 Honors
World History Honors
English 1 Honors
Earth and Env Science Honors
AP Psychology
Health/PE
Spanish 1
Concert Orchestra
I’m planning to get an A in all courses, allowing my GPA to be a 4.38 weighted
Next year I’m planning to take
Engineering Honors
Precalc Honors
English 2 Honors
Civics Honors
AP Bio
AP/Honors Chem (depending on if there are enough seats in the upperclassmen classroom)
Spanish 2
Concert Orchestra
I took a practice SAT and my score was a 1500, so with some extra preparation I think I can get a perfect score.
My extracurriculars are competing in HOSA, AMC, a member of our schools Math Honor Society, HOSA, and UNICEF Club. Outside school I play guitar, learn languages (Korean, now starting Mandarin), am in a Art School (and apply to many art competitions), as well as produce music as a hobby on my SoundCloud.
This summer I’m going to volunteer at a hospital program, and work at a science museum.
Also I tutor math, and help out in my community through UNICEF and Red Cross.
I’m worried my EC’s aren’t strong enough, because even though I am passionate about them I haven’t done the equivalent of “finding the cure to cancer” with any of them.
I know my district is very competitive and many other kids are very qualified, but will my resume stand a chance?
Are there any suggestions as to what I can/should do? Thanks!
