I'm auditioning at the Chicago unifieds, and I'm wondering how I go about splicing a CD so I can have just my 32-bar and 16-bar cuts on there? I'm really technologically challenged, and I'm not yet sure how to do that.. also if I don't have a CD for a song, how do I go about recording with an accompianist onto a CD? Any help is appreciated, thank you so much!

I don't know about unifieds, but I might be able to help with the music...

Audacity is one of the free programs you can download and use to cut your song... you can then copy another CD.

As far as recording without an initial CD, I have found that the best this is to record it on your ipod or mp3 player. you can buy a mic for it and we have found it is better that the tape recorder as we can digitize the music - that is, we can put it on the computer and then manipulate it (cut it down, etc.) and/or burn to CD. There are digital recorders out there also, but I could not find any info about recording quality (they tend to advertise as being good for recording lectures), so I cannot speak to the quality of the sound... but we have been pleased with the iPod and recorder (example; Belkin has one and there are others out there)

hope this helps

kk, For a recording check out the website, My Rehearsal Pianist Send the sheetmusic and he sends back a great piano accompianment mp3 file.

PropMiss...thanks for that link. I can't believe I have never heard of this website. I have had so many students rushing around trying to find someone to do a professional quality track of their sheet music for auditions. This can be a lifesaver...
