CD Players

I have a question to anyone that has experienced auditioning at the Chicago Unifieds. Many of the schools say "bring your own CD player."

Does everyone just bring them on the plane or buy them in Chicago? Can the parent help set them up? It seems pretty awkward!

i assume that the parent WILL NOT be allowed to help set it up, as auditions are (normally) closed. if you think about it, there isn't too much to set up with a CD player. you just plug it in, select the right track and you're good to go!

AFTERTHOUGHT: a lot of CD players are available with battery back-up. those ones wouldn't even need to be plugged in!

Gosh this question reminds me of my D's first audition at LA unifieds last year. She hadn't practiced turning on her cd player we had just bought, got flustered and dropped it so the bateries fell out. It took her a minute to get everything in working order. So, make sure you know how to play a cd on it before you enter the audition room.

We bought a cheap one at the Walgreens down the street in Chicago. It did not survive the airplane trip home so I'm glad we didn't spend a lot of money on it. We also loaned it out to a young lady who didn't have one. It was really nice to have the schools that brought an accompanist (CMU and Webster).

Just rehearse with your cd player as part of your audition. As happy as I am to not be going through this again, a little bit of me is jealous that I won't be going on the adventure that you are all going on.
Enjoy!

RE; using the CD player/boombox (@ unified/regional auditions)......how does it all work......do they have someone to start the music or does the student have to worry about it? Is it better to run it on batteries (or is electricity ok)? What kind works best? Is it ok to have 2 separate cd's? Thanks so much!
