Barbara Bush Jr. Barbara Bush went to Smith and was definitely not part of a political dynasty at the time.
Actually, she’s not Barbara Bush, Jr. but I’ll correct it to Barbara Pierce Bush.
When you think of all the “celebrities” that there are in the world, there aren’t all that many whose kids (or themselves) end up at Brown, or HYPSM.
And some celebrity kids end up at excellent, though not elite, LACs: Jamie Lee Curtis’ daughter (Kenyon); David Bowie’s son (Wooster); Paul Newman’s D (College of the Atlantic) to name just three. A lot of these kids lead low- profile lives on campus, have great college careers, and end up accomplishing a lot after graduating.
TBH, I think Obama’s children (after he’s finished with the presidency) could get in just about anywhere if they don’t do something stupid. Unlike Emma Watson, their celebrity/status comes as a result of their father’s work rather than theirs, so maybe not entirely fair, but that’s how life is.
@iwannabe_Brown, low-key rant but Arabs must identify as white (Arab is unrecognized as a proper race, which in-of-itself is an issue) despite originating from the African continent, thus (most logically) being African-American.
But the most elite colleges tend to not want to give that advantage to Middle Easterners, so they specify (Do you self-identify as white? (Including MIDDLE EASTERN!).
“Being a minority is different than a legacy. A minority would face any of the hardships that come with being a minority.”
To be honest you don’t face extreme hardships related to the college process just by being a certain race in the U.S. during the 21st century. You do however, by being socioeconomically disadvantaged, and while this tends to correlate slightly with race, there are privileged African-American children getting accepted to add ‘diversity’, while their outlook is probably the same as any other rich kid in America.
Guys, what if Emma Watson had a CC account? Doing ‘‘Chance me’’ threads and stuff like that.
You know that Emma is actually VERY intelligent, right? Why then would she engage in that mindless activity?
It was pretty cool seeing Brown’s point guard, Steve Spieth, cheering on his older brother at the Masters today.
On the other hand…I went to a prep school in England with the son of then Prime Minister of Jordan. This kid was a C student at best, and did poorly on SAT exam. He breezed in to Harvard. Natch!
