Cell Phone Issue

How many of your high schools have an issue with having a cell phone in school? Do you believe it is worth getting suspended over? ~~~ Just curious.

Our school just tells you to shut the phone off, or once in a great while someone might get sent out of class if it happens repeatedly. Then again, they aren't much of an issue in the first place, as the only people who are stupid enough to leave their cell phone on/talk on it during class are freshman girls who think cell phones are the coolest thing since the Atkins diet.

a lotta my teachers dont care if it rings lol.

if the teacher DOES care they give u a warning and then next time they confiscate it til the end of the day

If a cell phone rings in class, the teacher confiscates it and gives you a detention. You have to pay, yes, PAY $5 to get it back. They make a big deal out of cell phones at my school. But I know of some teachers who just act like they didn't hear it. In fact, once a teacher let someone answer her phone in class.

some teachers are really strict about it. most will only give a warning and give you time to turn it off. then there are teachers whose cell phones go off while they're teaching, and they will stop and to answer it, and sometimes go on talking for like 10 minutes.

in a class, if a cellphone gives out any sound (like a txt msg beep or somthing), the teacher goes through all our bags and searches for it until she/he has it. Then the teacher confiscates it and hands it to our assistant principle. Then the parents have to come in and take it from the principle. The student gets a couple of detentions.
It's pretty stupid because everyone brings their fone to school and switches it onto silent/vibrator.

well....in our school, the first time it goes off, you get a warning, the second time teacher keeps it for a day, third time teacher keeps it for a week, fourth time teacher keeps it for a week and you have to pay $10 to get it back, fifth time go to the office and sixth time you have a suspension....so yeah my school's pretty strict :\ ....and that's why i sure don't take my cell phone to school!!! :)

it really depends on the teacher. some teachers don't care, kids know they should have it off. others just kinda give you a warning. others will give you a detention and confiscate it.

lol there's a school board ruling against cellphone in schools for my area, and in my old school some teacher used to just take away your cellhphone whenever they see it, but in my new school, no one seems to care even if you bring it to class.

nothing really happens if it rings. we just promise it won't happen again. our teachers trust us to know that if it does ring, it's an emergency and most of us have it on silent anyway. some of us use it during class when the teacher isn't looking. besides, teh teacher's cell phones go off as much as ours do...so tehy can't say much

Can schools actually confiscate your property for a WEEK? That sounds mildly illegal.

The stuff happening in your schools seems mild compared to mine. If our cell phones gives of any sound at all during school hours, we get sent to the office and get in-school-suspension for three days!!!! ISS -- not even detention!!!
I think that is waaaay over the top. Do any of you have a different opinion?

Wow, you're schools are way too harsh, especially yours desi.
My school bored voted for cellphones, allowing students to have cellphones as long as it isn't used during school hours. However, my school is completely lenient; if a cell phone a couple of times during class during class, the teacher might get annoyed but rarely does he/she confiscate it.

Does the ISS go on your permanet record, desi? I think thats ridiculous @_@

Yes,all suspensions go on your permanent record. Thats why I'm so freaked out! If I forget to turn off my cell, and it goes off in class --- there goes my admin to any major college! Well, it will deter it anyway.

One of my friends had his cell phone in his pocket and he happened to lean against one of the desks. The volume button on his phone was pushed and he got ISS for that! How ridiculous!!

that's crazy you guys. What are they trying to prove? Cell phones are only a distraction if students use them in class. I go to school 1/2 hr away from my house and stay after every day for different events. My schedule for the day changes and is never constant. Without a cell phone, there would be days where I would not get home!

the ISS for the cell phone will not hurt your chances. Yes, you have to tell a school you were suspended, but you also have to tell them why. So when the admissions office reads that your mom called you during school and you got suspended cuz u forgot to put it on vibrate, I dont think they will hold it against you.

At my school, I dont think anyone gets punished for cell phone rings. Usually the teacher just stares at you, and then we all get to make jokes about whether it's the person's mom, sibling, dealer, broker, agent, etc. Hell, there's one teacher at my school who answers his cell during class.

You're schools are ridiculously strict by the way, and are they public? Is that kinda stuff allowed at public schools?

if any staff member SEES your cellphone, it is confiscated until your parents come to pick it up. If it happens again, it is taken until the end of the semester...maybe its just me, but since contracts are signed ahead of time, and most are $30+ a month, the school has no right to keep your cellphone that long, thereby causing you up to near $200 dollars in lost money, espescially since just SEEING the phone is in no way disturbing

That is so ludicrous!!! Reading that aggravates me. lol!
