Cell Phone Networks

So I was searching for a new cell phone and I'm not really sure which company's plan I should get...

Cingular? Verizon? T-Mobile? Um... are there more?

I was thinking of sticking with T-Mobile, but I'm not really sure how the coverage and signal strength are down in Durham (the salesperson said it would be fine, but since it was a salesperson... you know, I'm not really betting the farm).

So if someone who was there last year could give me alittle headsup and overview of the whole situation at Duke, that'd be great.

Oh, if this topic has already been discussed multiple times, you know, feel free to yell at me a little... actually, yell a lot... I've gotten really lazy this summer and need a shot in the foot.

Cingular doesn't work too well on East and there are some definite no-signal-zones on West too. It's been fine for me so far on Central though.

I don't know much about T-Mobile, but from what I can tell, Verizon is generally acknowledged as having the best coverage on campus.

Sprint also works just fine too, except places like the BS and Bostock, but you'll find that no ones phones work there for its no big deal.

(I do think they were supposed to install things to get better reception in Bostock and the BC though, for Verizon only...so maybe thats a good choice)

Cingular has bad service on East Campus, but it works alright on West Campus and Central Campus. Verizon has the best reception on campus by far. I believe that non-Verizon services are going to increase their availablility on campus and signal repeaters are being installed in the BC and CIEMAS for services other than Verizon in the coming year.

Ah, interesting.

Anybody have any intel on T-Mobile?

:)

Verizon is what I had, and I got a great signal. It was full-strength for most of the campus.

Verizon repeaters are already in place for the engineering complex...which is why I switched from Sprint (well, that and Sprint doesn't work in South Dakota)

I use Verizon since it's one of the best at home and the best at school -- I've never had a problem (except for one room at Pegram first year).

HiWei: The only T-Mobile customers I know are Sidekick users and they have mixed service, but it could also be b/c they're using Sidekicks.
