I currently have a pre-paid phone, and I am sick of it. I would like a new phone, and I would like to get unlimited texting. What would be my cheapest option be as far as service providers go?

I'd look at who has the best coverage first, then worry about pricing. Sometimes it's worth it to pay a little extra and have your phone work well at the places you go!

That being said, I live in the "boonies" where AT&T and Cingular didn't merge. What was AT&T was sold to a local guy who put it under a franchise. It was rough for a few months, but I guess he finally got it turn a profit as he's building towers like crazy. As of a few weeks ago, Cingular phones can't even use the "AT&T" towers and people are not happy (unless they're on what used to be AT&T, then they're happily chatting away on their phones).

Do a consumerist.com search on any cellphone company....you deserve to be informed when you decide to drop hundreds of dollars with a single company. Cingular has okay coverage, not the best in some areas, but T-mobile really sucks. Your coverage could depend on what kind of phone you own. I have a sony ericsson that's not getting particularly good reception so I'm looking for a phone on ebay...again.
