Cell Phone Reception at Vandy

I'm looking to buy a national cellular phone service with family talk (so i can call back to maryland where my mom is) but I've heard that some services don't recieve that great reception at Vandy. If there's a Vandy student reading this, I'd like to know which cell phone service you'd recommend...or if there's anyone in the Vandy area that knows.

Thanks a bunch! :)

S has Sprint and thinks it is good. D & I have Cingular and it's not quite as good in that area. If you are going to SAOP this summer, the counselors will be able to give you some info on good reception/best deals for students.

ahh cool. thanks. well i don't really have a cell phone now, and i wanted to get one before the summer...so we're probably going to sign with a plan before the summer.

thanks for the tip though! :)

we were just down there for the weekend with our son and our Verizon phones worked fine.

I've got cingular. it works everyone except inside branscomb, which blows.

I've had Sprint and T-Mobile. Both work well. Certain areas of Peabody have bad reception but overall really good.

I asked this to about 10 upperclassmens at Vandy and most said Verizon is the best. They said Cingular was good too (some didn't know how it is after the AT&T Cingular merger).

I'm not sure how this works but you can get discount from sprint if you are a Vanderbilt student. http://www.vanderbilt.edu/its/cellphone/

my brother has t-moblie and doesn't have a problem with it in nashville

The posts are rather old -any updates on which service works there?

att works fine for me

Verizon has been great.

Going by Sprint’s coverage map, Sprint 4g is available throughout the campus.

AT&T is terrible on the Commons, at least in Hank where I lived. I couldn’t call anyone from my room, and I would receive texts 30 minutes to a few hours after they were sent. I’m switching to Verizon, which is absolutely fine on campus. It’s funny, though, with the AT&T building being RIGHT THERE.

Since you’re in a big city I don’t think it matters too much and I’ve never heard anyone complain, so get whatever.

That said, I’d recommend verizon. Consistently the best service when you’re far away from dense population zones.
