can anyone who's currently at SC comment on which provider has the best reception on campus?

at&t sucks, other than that, i think you are ok

i had tmobile when i went there to visit, and it worked fine for me.

Cingular and T-Mobile are generally seen as the best. Stay away from Verizon!

How is Sprint? My parents want to keep me on the same plan that we have at home so I'll have a local number, but I want to make sure that I'll be able to actually call them while I'm in LA. If anyone can tell me anyone I would greatly appreciate it.

yeah t-mobile was good while i was there.
when you're there do you keep your local area code from where you're from or switch to the 323/213 thing where usc is?

I really haven't heard how Sprint is. I haven't heard anything bad about it.

As far as switching your area code, it's up to you. Some people switch it to the 213 code, but a lot keep their old one. Since not everyone switches, it's not like you'd be saving a lot of money on long-distance calls to your college friends when here at USC by switching to 213.

I have sprint...no complaints...generally people just stay away from at&t

I was at&t went I went to look at the school and the reception was fine. Know that thye have combined with Cingular they have an amazing span of reception that is always strong, also because they share cell towers with other companies.

I've been talking to att/cingular and i will be able to get a new number, I just have to call and ask. If we switch to cingular then we will do a whole new plan.

trojangirl05 what is your opinion on Cingular.
Roughly how many minutes do you use

I would recomend switching b/c if your friends call from a dorm phone it wont be long distance. and not all cell phone plans have long distance. Plus if you know a lot of ppl in the LA area.

Sprint works fine. My son kept his 703 number.

Cingular is considered fine....

i guess thats a good point, i had at&t before they had merged with cingular and they were awful...you couldn't get signal anywhere.

I have sprint now, like I said, it is fine. My plan is 500 min a month.

And I would say a good % of people don't switch their numbers. I did, but that is because I got a new plan when I got out here. Most plans have nationwide longdistance anyways, so it really doesn't affect you.

I have verizon and my phone almost never worked at or around the Tommy Trojan area.

Yeah, Verizon is the devil. I always joke that one day I will be being chased around the center of campus, and I'll die because my phone didn't work and I couldn't call anyone. I've heard of one or two people not having problems with Verizon, but that's it. I get no cell reception on the main part of campus (Trousdale, Tommy Trojan, McCarthy Quad, Alumni Park area). I barely got reception in the Radisson last year. Luckily I get perfect reception in my off-campus apt.

Aw crap....I have verizon....and my family is not gonna change that for me....O well...

Me too....

protokurious....we can be without cell phones together for the next 4 years...at least Texas Hold 'Em will still work on my phone...thats all I need...(Oh yeah, and the camera...thats always clutch...)

Is the general consensus that T-Mobile works best in the area?

no....as with anything, there is never a general consensus

BUT-I no of no one with significant complaints about T-Mobile, I have only ever heard complaints against Verizon and AT&T. Everything else ( and maybe even AT&T since the merger) is fine.

I dunno 'bout Sprint, I have it and it's nearly impossible to use it outside the bookstore, which is annoying when you're meeting someone there...
