I was wondering if anyone had any oppinions on what is the best cell service to have in state college?

My d has tmobile. I don't know about other carriers, but she has a lot of problems with service. She has to go into a stairwell to call from her dorm and there are a lot of dead spots on campus.

We have Verizon - service is good and MANY students switch to it after they arrive because they can then call other Verizon customers for free. I think they are probably the largest carrier on campus. We share 400 minutes and she never uses them all. One caveat - we live 5 miles from campus, daughter lives on campus. The only problem we've ever had with reception is when she is in the basement of the music building.

We have Cingular, one of the family plans and it works well. No dead spots I've encountered. Just an occasional drop out of signal. Cingular does have a Penn State discount, but only to the student so the plan has to be in his/her name and I think they require the student's credit card for sign up which also makes it difficult.

I'll second Verizon. My D even gets service in the dorm elevators.

Cingular here and it's been great

i think the two main on campus are cingular and verizon. both get really good reception, so get whatever is good at home too. my hometown doesn't get good signal with cingular so i got verizon and i haven't had any trouble anywhere on campus really.

great post, I'll have to have him keep checking when we visit on Wednesday.....

I got a call from work on my tmobile while in the dining hall and i heard about 80%...outside we got great reception

I spent a month at PSU, Cingular worked fine.

anyone know how well nextel works?
