whats better in the c-ville area? verizon or cingular.

I know verizon has good service but its on their extended netork - don't know about cingular.

extended network?

I get really good Verizon reception there.

ya, extended ..not sure what that means or if they charge you more but I was able to make calls fine and my dad didn't complain at the end of the month :-D

ha well thats good.

extended does not seem like a good thing though. i will have to consult my local verizon store

any else have experience with verizon or cingular cell service?

i live in southeastern VA with verizon, but switching to cingular for the fall.

have you heard that cingular is better in cville or are you just switching to switch?

Do any other Va. residents or students/alum at UVa have further opinions on this?? We have Verizon out here in Ca. and are thinking about extending the contract when D leaves in 2 weeks....just would like to be reassured that most people are fairly satisfied with it or feel strongly about another service.
Ariesathena, I believe you live on or near the campus, is that correct? I would love to hear good news from one or two others!
Thanks.

From what I've heard, both verizon and cingular have adequate if not excellent coverage across c-ville. I just came back from orientation using my cingular phone and never remember losing signal the whole trip. I did also go off campus and explore downtown and whatnot...and no problems on the trip to and from c-ville.

Daughter has lived in C'ville for 6 years now & had Cingular. It works alot better now that they merged with AT&T/Suncom. Suncom used to be the only local provider & there were all kinds of problems. At this point though, Cingular cell phone service in C'ville is good in most places within the confines of the campus & city. Get out into the countryside (north or east) & it's awful. Don't know about Verizon.

both work pretty well from my visit on grounds at orientation, tmobile is okay but doesnt work tooo well in the hallways of the dorms
