cell phone

hey guys

im currently live in california and im in a joint plan with my family right now with regards to cell phones. i need to get a new one and i had a couple of questions.

1) do you plan on sharing a plan with parents while at wash u?

2) what carrier has the best coverage in st louis?

thanks

I use cingular (at&t) and it works really well.

Me too (10 char)

My son had a shared family plan (Verizon) and he had no signal in the dorms.

Our son shared our verizon family plan and had cell service everywhere on campus including the dorms. He even had service in places that others did not...

D had Alltel (who I think is being purchased by Verizon). She had great reception all over campus (including dorm room), but there is no Alltel office in St. Louis for problems.

I should clear the "no signal" comment about Verizon. Reception was good all over except for South 40. His first year at Danforth he had difficulty with reception inside the building. His sophomore and Junior year, reception was good at Park- Mudd. THis last year at Eliott House, he did not have reception almost all the time, that he would go out the building to use his phone. No problem for me because I just used to call him on his landline whenever he was in his room.

We still have Verizon and I hope reception in Boston will be okay.

I was just there recently for Transfer Weekend, and I use Sprint. I found that, for the first time ever, I get the maximum number of signal bars possible on many places around campus, such as the South 40 dorms or South Brookings. On the other hand, in many areas, such as the Olin Library, my phone had to search for a signal (also the first time this has ever happened). So overally, Sprint is a mixed bag here, but certainly a reasonable option.

My kid used Verizon and he says his signal was fine all around campus and in the dorms.

do you guys have shared plans with your kids/parents?

the reason i ask this is because i will be out of state (coming from california) and i dont want to be charged long distance/roaming for calls at wash u

Our Verizon family plan has worked really well for the past 3 years. My S had service in both his South 40 dorms and in Milbrook last year. Our plan doesn't have roaming charges and his in-plan (Verizon to Verizon) calls are free.

I live in St. Louis and have had AT&T for 4 years now, and it's been OK for me. When I went for multicultural weekend a few months back, I don't think I had any cell phone problems on campus.

With AT&T, you get unlimited minutes within their network, and the minutes you get each month apply to all area codes in the continental US.

We're Verizon. My S was in Koenig freshman year and Liggett sophomore year (they're attached so it's like one big building). No reception inside this dorm--- same as someone else said, he had to go outside to use phone and we had to call him on landline when he was inside dorm. We have a family plan and haven't had any expensive charges for anything on our bill.
