I was wondering how cell phone reception is in and around the Cornell area. Is Cingular good, or Verizon better? Is there another service that is better than both of those? Please help, I am about to get a new cell phone, thanks!

I've heard Verizon is one of the best; it's the one I use and I usually find very good reception on campus (except for my room in Balch, but then again, nothing technological seems to work there). Many people are also happy with Cingular.

Get verizon or cingular. The best is prob verizon because most people have it and youll have free calling between your friends (free long distance verizon to verizon). Reception is really good on campus, some dorms suck for it though.

Verizon .

Yeah, go with Verizon

Verizon, definitely! Cingulair also doesn't work when you drive anywhere away from Cornell on all those back roads of northern NY.

Thank you everyone! I will go with Verizon!

is that true? i'm in balch and i'm planning to get verizon b/c i've heard about how great it is at cornell.

i'm in the 3460s in balch i believe. do you know if its okay there?

hahaha, who knows. it was a long running joke with my friends that because balch was built in the 20's, the building still acts that way by having all of the technology go haywire.
it's hit or miss. you'll probably be ok, and besides, you'll be out of your room for most of the time.

one more vote for verizon

Does anyone know about Tmobile service on campus?

I asked the same question a while ago.

From what I've heard, T-Mobile's not very good on campus.

thanks, I wanted to get a cell phone which is free after rebate but with tmobile. Oh well... guess I'll find something else.

Verizon is the best.

Tmobiel sucks up there. I know from when I visited during DHW. On the Campus, you get 1 bar of reception OUTSIDE (unless you are by the entrance roads, where you get full reception).

I just visited campus and my AT&T/Cingular phone worked well.

from what i remember, they fixed the cell phone problems in balch. verizon sent out a much stronger signal. so even though you only get 1 or 2 bars, it's doable.

cingular is pretty decent

what about sprint?
